Principal's Message

Sunny Heights Families,

I would like to welcome everyone back as we begin 2021! It was great to see our student's faces, smiles, and hear their laughter (even through a computer). Students and teachers picked up right where they left off in December and we are back to learning!

The window for the Learning Option Change has closed for Q3 & Q4. We are all looking forward to seeing many of our students in person beginning January 19th and continuing to support those in the Virtual Learning Academy. We are in tough times currently for sure due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the disturbing events in Washington D.C. We want to be a source of safety and support for our students, staff, and families whenever and however possible.

Please do not hesitate to reach out to school staff with questions, concerns, or needs for support.

Your Proud Principal,

Bart Lewis

ParentVue Changes

As we prepare for receiving students back to in-person instruction and transitioning students to 100% virtual, you may see changes appear in your ParentVue (Synergy) and your student’s Canvas account. Some possible changes might be seeing a new teacher’s name appear on your student’s schedule or a new classroom dashboard tile in Canvas. Do not be alarmed by these changes. Once your student begins their new schedule on January 19th, you will see their accurate placement and correct teacher connections with Canvas and digital curriculum.

WIDA Testing

WIDA testing will begin on January 11, 2021 for all identified English Learner students. Kindergarten families will be contacted to bring their students into school for testing during the week of January 11, 2021. 1st - 4th students will begin testing the week of January 18th when they return to in-person instruction. If your child’s learning environment is virtual, you will be contacted to arrange a date for testing. You can bring your child to school on their designated testing date or your school can arrange transportation. Please complete this form if your child will require transportation. Please note that if your child will be using bus transportation, they will remain at school for the entire day. If you have questions, please contact Julie Mitchell (532-2909).

Grados K-4to.

Technology Help Desk Update

Beginning Monday, October 26th the Moorhead technology help desk will move to door 11 at the rear of the building located near the playground. Please drive through the gate on the west side of the building and, after parking, enter door 11 for assistance. The Technology team will keep the same hours for the help desk: Monday through Friday (except holidays) from 11am to 1pm.

For the 2020-2021 school year, Warren Township has transitioned to a new student information system called Synergy allowing our parents and caregivers to have improved access to school information through the parent portal called ParentVUE. We are aware that at this time some students’ attendance records are reflecting students are absent, when in fact they were present. This is mostly the case for our students who are attending school VIRTUALLY on application days or in the VIRTUAL opinion full-time. We want to assure you that teachers are keeping accurate attendance records and that we are working to correct attendance records for all our students.

PBIS Weekly Focus @ Sunny Heights Elementary

This week our students are focusing on recognizing students that show EXCELLENCE throughout the day. Excellence is shown when students put forth their best effort in any situation, especially difficult or challenging situations. We want Sunny Heights to be a place where everyone is valued, respected, and strives for their own excellence.

Updated Lunch Menu

Here is the Updated Lunch Menu from Chartwell's. Starting Monday, students will get a choice of a hot or cold entree!

School District Publications/News Media Use

The occasion may arise when the school district wants to recognize your child or your child's school. This may include your child's photo, your child's name or your child's work in district publications, newsletters, on school district websites, and in electronic/social media or in staff training videos. We may also want to tell the media (including newspapers, television, and radio) about your child's achievements. We never knowingly release information about a student to anyone who wants to use it for commercial/political purposes. However, we will honor your request to not include your child in these types of recognition if you notify your child's school office in writing that you do not want this type of information released.
