Post-Secondary Planning Meeting (Planning for College)-- Juniors & Seniors

Monday, September 26 @ 6 PM at MVS----- Come meet with guidance councils from Maryville City Schools to go over the your student’s post-secondary (college) options and learn what needs to be done when. They will share very important information regarding the college application process and financial aid / scholarship information. Mark your calendar!

Blount County College Fair

The Blount County College Fair will take place on Wednesday, September 28 from 5:30-7:00 pm. This free, in-person college fair will allow high school students and their parents to connect with over 50 colleges, universities, technical schools and art schools so that you can get the information you need during your college search. Don’t miss this opportunity to connect with a variety of college representatives who are eager to discuss your many options for college! PSAT (Optional Test for 10th & 11th graders)

Your high school student has the option of taking the PSAT this fall. This test data is used for students to be entered into the National Merit Scholarship Program. Your student may take it as a sophomore or a junior. The junior year scores are the ones that are considered for the scholarship program. Our students have the opportunity to test with Maryville High School, if they complete the registration process before the below deadline. Location: Sophomores--Maryville High School Axillary Gym & Juniors-- New Providence Church

COST: $25.00 (The $25.00 registration fee is NON-REFUNDABLE.)

To Register--- Print and complete the below form. Return it to the MVS office along with $25 in cash or check (made out to MVS).

AFFORDABLE CONNECTIVITY PROGRAM (ACP)

The Affordable Connectivity Program provides eligible households up to $30/month toward their internet bills, as well as a one-time discount of up to $100 to purchase a laptop, desktop computer, or tablet. All households with a child who was approved to receive free or reduced-price meals under the National Schools Lunch Program or the School Breakfast Program within the last 12 months, including children who attend schools participating in the Community Eligibility Provision, are eligible for ACP benefits. Families can check their eligibility, sign up, and find fully covered plans by clicking HERE (mobile-accessible and available in Spanish) or by calling 877-384-2575.

Counselor's Corner

September is College Application Month in the state of TN and several colleges are participating. ETSU (https://www.etsu.edu/admissions/app-waiver.php), TN Tech (https://www.tntech.edu/admissions/apply/index.php?cbe_rcid=2ad6474d-7faf-4184-a3b5-8a178fad7fef), and the University of Memphis (https://apply.memphis.edu/apply/) will offer a free application for the entire month. Schools in the UT System and MTSU will sponsor free applications during College Application Week, September 19-23.


The following colleges will have representatives at Maryville High School on these days from 9:55 AM to 10:10 AM. If you are a MVS junior or senior and want to visit with the representative, please check in at MHS front desk by 9:45 AM and then make your way to their guidance office.

Reminders---

ACT Retakes for All Seniors

All MVS Seniors will retake the ACT test on October 18th at Maryville High School. This retake is a free, on-line test opportunity provided by the state of Tennessee. More information will be coming home soon explaining the process of enrolling for the test.

Low Grade Emails

Each Wednesday at 11:00, you will receive a Low Grade Alert email if your student currently has a average below 60 in a class. Below is an example. Please note in the highlighted section below, your email will have the course and grade listed.

PowerSchool/ Gradebook Access for Parents

As a parent, you have three ways to keep grades at your fingertips--


1. Login to https://ps.maryvillecityschools.k12.tn.us/public/home.html

with your Parent username and password.

2. Sign up for emails of grades and attendance

  • Setting Up Automatic Reminders: Emailed Notification of Grades
    • Once parent is logged in, choose Email Notification on the left.
    • Check what information you would like to receive, how often, and to what email address.
    • Click Submit and Sign Out.

3. Download the PowerSchool app and view it on your phone

  • PowerSchool Mobile App
    • Install App.
    • Enter District Code: QLNK.
    • Login using the Parent username and password.
