Dear Wrightstown Parents,
It is hard to believe the end of the school year count down has begun! The number of days remaining this year seems to be a popular topic of conversation among students. With that said, there a few exciting events we are looking forward to before we welcome summer vacation. The month of May will bring our Annual Spring Concert, a March of Dimes for Babies Mini-Walkathon, a science assembly, Career Day, Field Day and a few class trips! At this time of the year we encourage students to continue their good work and support them in their focus. We recognize the warmer temperatures coupled with sports and after school activities can pose a challenge. A few things you can do to help your child maintain school routines are: continue with healthy bedtime schedules, continue to make school a priority, implement consistent homework routines, and communicate with teachers. Please join us in helping students have a strong finish to the school year!
Sincerely,
Beth Fox

March of Dimes
Wrightstown is once again gearing up for our annual March of Dimes fundraiser. The students will be informed of the mission of March of Dimes during in-class presentations on May 10th.
During the week from May 10th to May 17th, students will have an opportunity to make a "CHANGE" for babies by donating any extra change they may have leftover after buying lunch or from home. There will be containers set-up in the all-purpose room during lunch for donations (AM and PM kindergarten will have a container in their room for donations). Donations can also be made by check written to "March of Dimes." The class with the largest donation will receive a special treat!
On Wednesday, May 17th we will have a March of Dimes — March for Babies mini-walkathon. Students are encouraged to bring in a $3 donation and to wear purple on that day.
Thanks for your support in helping all babies!
Counselor's Corner with Mrs. Jachimski
Our third graders learned about emotional bullying through the book, My Secret Bully by Trudy Ludwig. Katie and Monica have been good friends since kindergarten, but Monica is discouraged when Katie’s friendship becomes inconsistent. Katie is nice to Monica when they are alone, but when they are at school, she makes mean comments and excludes her. Monica receives good advice from her mom about standing up to a bully.
In small groups, we came up with healthy ways to respond to various emotional bullying scenarios from the perspective of both the victim and the bystander.
Discussion questions for home:
Have you been in a similar situation as the characters in the story?
How can a friend turn into a bully?
Do boys typically bully others in the same way as girls?
In the story, Monica goes to her mom for advice. Who can you go to for friendship advice?
7 Habits of Happy Kids - Home Connection
Thank you for your participation in The 7 Habits of Happy Kids – Home Connection activities. We enjoyed seeing how our Wrightstown families incorporated the The Habits of Happy Kids at home through teamwork, communication, imagination, empathy, and a healthy lifestyle! Keep up the good work!
STEM Night 2017
Families enjoyed a variety of explorations across all the domains of STEM on Wednesday, April 19th. From race cars, to stacking cups without touching them, to weighing oranges, to having the last bean “stand”, to working with Ozobots – and even taking the controls for Ollie (aka: Raven), to Saving Fred, everyone from young to old found their hands – and their minds – involved in many challenges. What a great way to spend a Wednesday night. Check out these cool pictures!
Literacy Corner by Mrs. Etgen
I hope that you are all enjoying the sunny Spring days.
In upcoming news, third and fourth graders are beginning work on a school paper. If you feel that you have a budding journalist, please encourage them to participate! The paper will be published before the end of the year, so be sure to keep your eyes open for it!
One more thing… if you are like me, you are always looking for educational apps and activities for your kids to do while they are on their devices. With my own children, I sometimes suggest that they spend an allotted amount of time on an educational site before moving on to the gaming site. Here are some reading and comprehension apps that I have had success with.

Remember that your child is never too old to be read to – they can always benefit from hearing your expression as you read, as well as share your love of reading. As always, enjoy reading and spending time with your child!!
Spring Conert
Everyone is cordially invited to the Wrightstown Spring Concert on Tuesday, May 9th at 7:30 p.m. in the school’s Multi-Purpose Room. The Advanced String Ensemble, Beginning Orchestra and Beginning Band will be performing some great songs such as Ode to Joy, Dragonhunter, and Tyrannosaurus Rocks!
Field Day 2017
Thursday, June 1st
Raindate of Monday, June 5th
Don't forget your sunscreen and water bottles!
News from the Library
In kindergarten, we are beginning an author study on author and illustrator Leo Lionni.
In first grade, we are discussing the Caldecott Medal and how it is awarded as we read past and present Caldecott Medal and Honor books.
In second grade, we are traveling around the world as we read and discuss folk tales from different countries.
In third grade, we are currently exploring different online tools that students can use to locate and suggest new books to read as students write their own book recommendations.
In fourth grade, we are discussing the importance of giving credit when using another person’s work and how to use MLA 8 to cite sources.
