Dear Gotsch Families,

I hope you and your family have enjoyed a safe and fun summer. The feedback you have provided this summer has informed our planning and we are excited about the possibilities for the upcoming school year. On July 25, 2020, the Board of Education unanimously voted to begin the 2020-2021 school year in 100% Distance Learning. Health conditions will be reevaluated prior to the end of the first quarter on October 23 in the hopes that a transition to a Fixed Blended schedule would be possible.

Based on the number of students in each learning option, some adjustments were made to the class lists that were created and shared in May. You will be receiving a letter next week with some information specific to your child including the name of their teacher for the 2020-2021 school year.

As we prepare to start the year with virtual and distance learning options in place, I wanted to make you aware of a few supports and structures that will promote a robust learning experience for your child. Your child will need their Chromebook. For our 3rd grade families and any returning families who did not pick up a Chromebook in the spring, we have scheduled a pick up on August 18. The details for that event are included below. Our students will access essential learning through our new learning management system, Canvas. We will be sharing more information and support on how to access and use this system. Canvas has a Remind feature. Teachers will use Remind to send classroom alerts and reminders to families.

To provide a more structured and consistent learning experience throughout the day, we have developed a Virtual/Distance Learning Schedule for each grade level.

All students will follow this schedule for the first quarter. Each grade level starts the day with synchronous class meeting time. You will be receiving some additional information about the schedule and Canvas from your child's teacher during the week of August 17. The Supplies & Chromebook Pick Up event on the 18th will be an opportunity to pick up items to support and reinforce learning at home. These items will include student workbooks and instructional manipulatives for math and science. The supply list below contains the items we are suggesting you have available for your child during the first quarter. If you have any concerns or are in need of any supplies on this list, please contact your child's teacher.

In addition to the pick up event on the 18th. Our staff hopes you can also join us for a Back to School Parade on August 20th. The details are included below.

Although this school year is going to start like never before, our staff is energized and preparing to provide a high quality and personalized learning experience for your child. We will continue to provide information leading up to the first day of school. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact your child's teacher or me at anytime.
