Congrats to our very own Alea Lindall!

The Coweta Community Foundation hosted a student art competition to celebrate their 25th year of operation and serves within the community. Each school in the county could have one student to represent their school. A panel of judges at Evans selected the artwork of Alea Lindall to represent EMS. This past weekend The Coweta Community Foundation selected Alea and her artwork as the 1st place recipient in the Middle School category . Congratulations Alea!!! For her prize She will receive a 3D printer and the EMS Visual Arts will receive an art grant.

The panel of judges at Evans wanted to acknowledge several other students and their artwork. These students are: Julianna Hull, Yaan Flores Mendoza, Jasin McDaniel, Kaylee Dorough, Ferami Adefalu, Vesa Hudson, Allie Rine, Kellie Brinkley, Hatalie Harris, Maddy Roche, and Piper Smith. Student Engagement!

8th Grade STEM

8th grade Semester STEM students just finished working on their Candyland Unit which helps the individuals within Candyland.

First, they had to recreate an antidote using marshmallows and toothpicks. Teams had an antidote scientist who communicated with the runner on how to build and then the runner had to share this information with the construction scientists. Communication was key!

Second, they were hired by Jolly to construct a bridge from gumdrops and toothpicks to cross the Chocolate River. Their bridge had to minimize cost but maximize load strength.

Third, Princess Lolly hired them to create wind powered cars to reduce the pollution in her lollipop forest.

Fourth, Mr Mint wanted them to invent a tic tac machine to distribute 3-4 tic tacs at a time to visitors.

Lastly, King Kandy hired them to create gourmet ice cream flavors and construct mobile ice cream carts to sell their ice cream out of. Their carts had to be able to insulate the homemade ice cream they made during class.

7th Grade ELA

Students in Ms. Rowell's 7th Grade ELA class analyzed exemplars. Here is what she said about her students: My students have been doing AWESOME diving into how to dissect a narrative prompt by analyzing different exemplars from previous Milestones. They had a narrative checklist and graded previous student examples from years prior. They got to work in groups and out in the hallway (which they love). I love seeing them work together and use their critical thinking skills in Language Arts! Onto writing their own narratives this week.

7th Grade Math

Student's practice solving equations by creating a chain. When a student answered correctly they could add their links to the class chain!

6th Grade Social Studies

We have been studying Europe's Environmental Issues in class. Students were asked to choose one of three issues we discuss and create a "News Report" presentation to highlight to their peers the causes, effects, and solutions of their particular issue. Students had free range to create this presentation however they wanted and were encouraged to use their creativity to make it as close to what a news report would look like.

Cell Phone and Smartwatch Use

Cell phones may not be used during the instructional day and must be turned off and put away in their backpacks at all times. Students are permitted to use the designated student phone located in the front office during school hours for emergencies or for illness. Students should not use a cell phone or smartwatch to call home or text when sick. Any student who is ill should go through the health clinic. The school nurse will call parents directly. Calling home for homework, a school project, or to make arrangements to attend an after school event that wasn't previously arranged is not permitted. Students may call home if:

  1. There is a transportation issue,

  2. Lunch or lunch money is needed,

  3. There is a dress code issue.

  4. The student is sick or needs medication (must call from the clinic under the nurse's supervision).

We appreciate your support of this policy so we can minimize interruptions to learning.
