Keeping Up with Comm Arts
~ February 12, 2024 ~
Hello Comm Arts Family and Friends!
Progress reports will be available on HAC on Monday, February 12. Students, check your grades and keep up with your assignments.
Wednesday, February 14th, is an Early Dismissal and Teacher Planning Time. Students are dismissed at 1:00 pm. Buses will complete their regular routes at 1 pm. There will be no off-campus lunch on the 14th. Wednesday is also the AP Mock exams. Students will participate in a social studies mock AP exam. This is great practice and a way to review for the real deal in May.
Next week, Monday, February 19th, is Presidents’ Day. This is a student holiday and staff development. Students, we hope you have a wonderful three-day weekend.
Campus Reminders
Dress Code - As the weather slowly gets warmer, remember that midriffs must be covered and shorts must be mid-thigh, even with tights.
Lunch Expectations - Students , you must remain in the cafeteria or the back patio during lunch. If you plan on leaving the cafeteria, you will need a pass. This includes going to the library, tutoring, or elective classes such as choir, band, etc. Lunch d-hall will be assigned to those roaming the hallways.
Bus Passes - If you want to ride home on a different bus with a friend, you must stop by our front office before lunch. This requires administrative approval.
Highlights
Recreations
Spanish two students researched a famous Hispanic artist and replicated one of their works of art. Their presentations used vocabulary about art and preterite and imperfect past tense. They also had the choice of creating digital or handmade versions of their chosen famous paintings. The students' artistic skills were the definite highlight of this project!

Helping Others at the Food Bank
On Thursday, January 25th, members of the Helping Hands Club, Black Student Union and the National Honor Society volunteered their time at the San Antonio Food Bank. Members sorted food items and created food boxes for pick up. Our organizations were able to sort through 3,845 lbs. of food and create over 3,076 meals. Counselors' Corner
Wise Words with Dr. Rosales & Ms. Skidmore
Acts of Kindness Week: Random Acts of Kindness Week is February 14-20, 2024, when students are encouraged to amplify their interactions with kindness. Being kind to others helps to create a sense of community, safety, and belonging, a common basic need we require as human beings, according to Maslow. Aside from displaying kindness to others, it positively impacts our mental health by boosting our well-being with self-esteem, compassion, and empathy so we can be and live the best version of ourselves. So, for your own sake and the sake of others, take some time to express some good-will with random acts of kindness. See the image for a few ideas to help get you started. Thank you❤️ Thank you to the students who signed posters, played musical instruments, and wrote sweet notes in celebration of School Counselors’ Week. We greatly appreciate your thoughtfulness.
