Term 3 - Issue 10 29th July 2021
PRAYER
PRINCIPAL'S POST
Dear Parents & Caregivers,
It's been a wonderful start to Term 3 with our students returning full of energy and enthusiasm for the new school term. Thank you to all parents and families who have supported their children in transitioning back to well presented uniforms, homework and the routines of the school day.
It was a great first week back with the celebration of NAIDOC Week and all the associated activities. In the above video, you will see the Wesley Moorditj Mob leading our students through some cultural dances such as the Emu, Kangaroo and the little known 'Honey Bee'. We also celebrated with a Gina Williams concert (the artist behind 'Wanjoo') and to culminate the week, a wonderful concert thanks to Mr C, our music teacher. Thank you to the Miss Vinciguerra and our Aboriginal Education Team on coordinating a great celebration of our First Nations people and engaging our students across a range of areas, including culture, history and curriculum.
CEWA EVERY CHILD COUNTS CAMPAIGN
As highlighted in previous communications, the COVID-19 pandemic has placed additional demands on our system. As a result, CEWA continues to lobby the state government through our annual budget submission, requesting equity for our school in a range of key funding measures, both recurrent and once-off grants. Attached below is a letter from our Executive Director, Dr Debra Sayce, addressing this issue to our parents and caregivers. Please take the time to read and support our Catholic school.
MAKE-A-MOVE PERFORMANCE PROGRAM
This week, we welcomed back the Make-A-Move Performance Program for ALL children in K-6. Every child in each class is given the opportunity to choreograph their own parts to a class dance to some contemporary music. At the end of this term, the program will finish with a performance at our annual Grandparents Day celebration. I think there will be extra excitement with this year's Disney theme!
NEW STUDENTS/STAFF
This term we welcome Jenson Brooks (5W) and Flynn Richards (PPB) to our community and hope they both feel warmly welcomed by classmates and families of SFOA. We also officially welcome Mrs Jo Richardson to the position of Year 5B classroom teacher. The children in 5B have already made a smooth transition.
UNIFORM SHOP 1:30pm - 2:30pm
We would like to express our thanks to Mrs Renee Ashworth for running the uniform shop for the past 18 months as a member of Jenny Franklin's team. With her move to Newman, Renee has passed the uniform baton to Mrs Meg Goldie, a current parent to Paige and Nate. Due to other commitments, the uniform shop will now be open weekly from 1:30pm - 2:30pm on Mondays. As noted below, you can always order online via the link and orders will be filled as soon as practicable.
SCHOOL ADVISORY COUNCIL
With Mrs Jo Richardson stepping down from her role on the School Advisory Council Treasurer position, congratulations and thank you to Mrs Janelle Prunster for taking up the role beginning this term. Janelle's experience in finances and commitment to our school is greatly appreciated.
FRIENDS OF FRANCIS - Lunch with Leadership Thursday 1st July
Last Friday, our winners of the Friends of Francis were treated to a belated lunch with leadership. Nothing quite hits the spot for 27 Kindy - Year 6's like Popcorn chicken, nuggets and chips. The children were all smiles and we look forward to our next winners lunch. A reminder to parents that Friends of Francis encourages acts of our school values of Respect, Responsibility and Honesty in and around the school. With the raffle being drawn at our assemblies.
CODE OF CONDUCT
A reminder that every member of the St Francis of Assisi Primary community must behave in the manner described in our Code of Conduct. Our Code is like the 40km/h speed limit outside our school in the mornings and afternoons. It defines behaviours that keep our students safe: at school, and elsewhere. Children and young people surrounded by adult and peer behaviours described in the Code are more likely to recognise and choose healthy relationships for themselves.
We each keep our students safe by following our Code of Conduct, and encouraging and reminding each other to do so. For Staff, our Code of Conduct is a lawful direction and forms part of our employment agreement. While for parents, compliance is a condition of entry to our school premises. Recently, we also introduced our Student Code of Conduct, which emphasises how our children want to feel at school. Please see below for the 12 Code of Conduct Statements.
With the Olympics in full swing, it's great to see many Australian athletes being very successful in their chosen pursuit. There are a number of inspirational stories from here and abroad and they provide a great stimulus to discussion with our children about perseverance, drive and how to respond to disappointment. To show our support for our Olympic athletes, the children may wear green or gold tomorrow for a gold coin donation!
Have a great fortnight ahead.
Best wishes
Jason Baker
Principal
