Vikan Knights, ARMOR Up!
From Principal Velez
Hello Vikan Community,
Last night I attended the Adams County Mayor and Commissioner Youth Awards. At this event, one of our Vikan Knights (among others) was recognized as an individual who has overcome significant challenges with positivity and growth mindset. Cheyenne Adams is her name and she is an 8th grade Knight.
Cheyenne was diagnosed with scoliosis. She endured a 5-hour surgery to correct her spine. Unfortunately, after all the intense pain and recovery, her spine rotated 90 degrees. Cheyenne faced the difficult decision of being wheelchair bound or going back for another excruciatingly painful surgery. She chose the latter. Her second surgery took place in July just a couple of weeks before school started. Cheyenne faced her many challenges with the beautiful smile that characterizes her. She continued to push herself to ensure she kept her grades up and attended school whenever possible. She has been back at Vikan full time for a while and does very well at school.
Cheyenne is an example of what ARMOR looks like at Vikan. We are proud of her and honored that she has chosen Vikan as her school. Cheyenne was nominated for this award by Ms. Gloria Wertz, Health Aid at Vikan.
Congratulations Cheyenne!

Chromebooks/Technology
Please take a minute to read the information below regarding electronic devices (Chromebooks).
8th Grade:
As you may know, One2Web was designed with the intention that 8th and 12th grade students leave with the older devices at the end of the school year. The devices are aged out of the program, which enables families to have a device at home. This is a return on investment for the families in our district. WE WILL NOT BE COLLECTING CHROMEBOOK DEVICES FROM 8TH GRADERS:IMPORTANT: As you know, technology is an amazing tool that opens the world to our youth. A Chromebook, when properly used, provides our students the opportunity to learn about the world, interact with others, entertain themselves, and much more. Technology, however, can also be a very dangerous tool as it opens your house/family to the world. Technology goes both ways. CHROMBOOKS WILL NOT BE MONITORED BY OUR DISTRICT ONCE GIVEN TO THE 8TH GRADERS. They will be completely disconnected from our server and students will have the ability to utilize them in whichever manner they see fit. PLEASE MONITOR your child's use of technology and make sure they are being responsible. For resources on how to do this, please click HERE. If you do not want your child to keep the Chromebook, they can turn it in at the end of the year in the Library.
6th & 7th Grade
Chromebooks will be collected on May 19th. Students will be working on paper/pencil the last week of school.
As always, if you have any questions or concerns, do not hesitate to reach out.
