The Processor
and what it includes
The Control Unit
The part of the CPU that interprets the instructions in programs and directs the operation of the entire system. The control unit can be refered to as the CU.
sends out signals to the CPU which allows it to fetch instructions from the main memory.
it then, decodes and executes the instruction.
The ALU
Standing for Arithmetic and Logic Unit, is the part of the central processing unit that performs arithmetic and logical operations.
carries out the calculations such as, addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
it also carries out logic functions such as comparing values using IF, AND, <, >, WHILE.
Registers
- Temporary memory location in side the processor.
- They are used to store the data for the current instruction being processed.
