Dear Parents,
This is a reminder that report cards will be available on your parent PowerSchool account later. Similar to the last report card for the 2nd marking period, Report cards are being shared through a more secure method using your parent PowerSchool account. The file can only be accessed through a web browser, such as Edge, Chrome or Safari. Please note that the link is not available through the PowerSchool App.
Directions on how to access the report cards are available at this link.
Utica Community Schools will send an email when the report cards are available. If you have issues accessing the file once it is available, please contact us at (insert direct phone number) or email (insert email).
Resources for Parent Support
The Teaching and Learning Department has created videos that can assist administrators or administrative assistants with parents needing help accessing the third marking period report cards through the PowerSchool Parent Portal website (report cards cannot be accessed using the PS app). CELL PHONES AND SMART WATCHES ARE NOT PERMITTED AT SCHOOL
Students are to keep these items at home. If you would like approval for your child to carry a cell phone (for use after school while walking home, for example) please contact their teacher who can make an allowance for such items to be: 1.) stored out of sight in backpack, and 2.) turned OFF/powered down (not just switched to silent).
Special note regarding ‘Smart’ watches: many of the newer devices have features that provide access to the internet, phone calling or texting , and picture-taking capabilities. It is almost impossible to monitor each accessory on each student’s wrist therefore devices of this sort will not be permitted to be worn at school.
If cell phones or smart watches are seen or heard in the classroom, teachers will collect the item and send it to the office for retrieval by a parent. Upon a second offense, suspension time may be issued.
HANDBOOK/POLICY REMINDER:
Possession or use of cell phones or other electronic communications devices (ECDs) by elementary students is prohibited at any time while in school or in a district vehicle unless permission has been given by an administrator – this includes text messaging and camera usage.
UCS BOND ELECTION INFORMATION...
For the past year and a half, Utica Community Schools has been collaborating with our community, students and staff to work through our strategic planning process. As a result of this work, UCS is pursuing a bond proposal on the May 2, 2023 ballot. This No Tax-Rate Increase Bond Proposal will help UCS instill excellence in every part of our school district by focusing on two key areas: SAFETY and SUCCESS.
NO SCHOOL ON TUESDAY, MAY 2ND
Safety remains a priority in Utica Community Schools.
On May 2, Utica Community Schools will be holding a special election that will allow voters to consider the district’s Safety and Success proposals. Our schools remain the centerpiece of the community, and we are proud that many of our school facilities are used to support the voting process. During these elections, school facilities need to be open and easily accessible to allow voters to cast their ballots.
As has been the practice of UCS for past elections, there will be no school on May 2. The cancellation of school maintains our commitment to safety and allows our facilities to be open for community members to cast their ballots in this important election. This will also provide an opportunity for professional development opportunities for staff.
Dear Parents:
Teacher Appreciation week is right around the corner. We would like to celebrate our teachers for the amazing job they do with a Gift Card Raffle, but we need your help!
The PTA is asking for donations of $10 gift cards, from the place of your choice, to use in our daily raffle. The gift card that you donate may not go directly to your child’s teacher, but to someone special in the building.
If you would like to participate, please send gift cards, or monetary contributions and we will buy the gift card for you, to school in a sealed envelope by April 21st addressed to: PTA Teacher Appreciation.
Please let us know if you have any questions. Thank you for making this a wonderful week for our Ebeling teachers!

REMINDERS AND REPEATS FROM PREVIOUS ISSUES OF THE EAGLE NEWS:
ATTENDANCE POLICY
If your child is going to be absent call 586-797-4799 and leave a message on the 24-hour automated absence line. Any absences not called in to the office will be marked as 'unexcused' on student attendance records.
Your child will be excused from class for illness, bereavement, recognized religious holidays and medical or dental treatment that cannot be scheduled after school or on weekends.
Your child is responsible for makeup work. Homework requests may be made for an absence of two or more days in the case of both excused and pre-excused absences. Homework requests require 24 hours to process.
VACATION POLICY
Absence for family travel during scheduled school days is discouraged.
However, should family travel be necessary, parents must submit a written request to the Ebeling office for Principal approval of a pre-excused absence at least one week in advance. Vacation days in excess of 10 days per school year will not be approved.
Arrangements to complete classroom assignments can be made with the teacher.
You can arrange for home study through the school principal should your child be absent from school for an extended period due to physical disability or illness.
LATE ARRIVAL
If a student arrives late to school, the parent must accompany the student into the office, and the student must be signed in before he or she can go to class.
Truancy officials will be contacted in the event of a student having excessive tardies or absences.
SCHOOL PROPERTY REMINDERS:
NO PETS
Utica Community Schools has a no pet policy on school property.
OUTDOOR LEARNING
Please remain off school play areas and blacktop until 3:05 PM. Outdoor activities are scheduled daily until 3:00 PM.
NO SMOKING
The use of tobacco products on school property is prohibited in Michigan.
PARKING AND PICKUP AT DISMISSAL
Overall, our parking lot runs smoothly thanks to all of you! Safety is the number one priority when accounting for the flow of traffic (buses and cars) that rotates through the parking lot daily. In addition to pedestrian and vehicular safety, we strive to facilitate a smooth and steady flow of traffic. If you enter the parking lot for pick up at dismissal time and find no spots available, you must exit the parking lot and park on the street. This year, we have instituted a queue that begins once our parking lot crossing guard is on duty. The queue should be used by vehicles wanting to enter the lot well before dismissal time to park for pick up , but no spots are available. The queue starts at the driveway entering the lot, up to the crosswalk and onto the apron of the entrance driveway. The crossing guard on duty will direct the first in the queue into the appropriate area and notify cars once a spot becomes available. If you arrive to pick up your child for an early dismissal, notify the crossing guard who will radio the office of your arrival and provide direction on a waiting spot.
Keep in mind that the parking lot can only accommodate a finite number of vehicles. If the queue line is too long, vehicles at the end of the line run the risk of not getting into a parking spot in the lot before dismissal. In these cases, it is best to park down the street and walk in, or meet your child at a prearranged rendezvous spot.
SCHOOL VISITORS:
We are asking for your assistance to ensure that our security procedures during the school day are effective. As many of you know, our school has a security camera, intercom, and buzzer at the front main entrance for use during the school day. To help us assist you when you would like to enter the school:
1. Please press the buzzer to speak with someone in the office
2. You will be asked to state your name and reason for visiting
3. You will be asked to show your photo ID into the security camera above the outside door
4. Office staff will then be able to buzz you inside
5. All visitors must immediately register in the office
In addition, we are asking you to not let any visitors in the door as you enter (and they come up behind you) or as you exit the building.
The teachers and staff are committed to student safety and security and we would like to thank you for your assistance in helping keep the students of Ebeling safe.
