Words of Wisdom
Manners are a sensitive awareness of the feelings of others. If you have that awareness, you have good manners, no matter what fork you use.
~ Emily Post
It used to seem so simple, didn't it? Manners meant saying please and thank you, opening doors for others, and eating with the correct utensil. Being a good citizen meant being a good citizen in this physical world, not a cyberworld, where it is possible to be rude and unkind while remaining anonymous and unaccountable. So, while we don't have to worry about which fork to use in cyberspace, we do need to have a "sensitive awareness" about the feelings of others. And our children need to be taught and repeatedly reminded that feelings matter whether they are communicating online or in person.
With something to think about . . .
Remember to take care of yourself.
Written thank-you notes are still considered the gold standard, but it can be so difficult to find the time. Consider texting a photo of the gift in use or videotaping an enthusiastic "thank-you" if you're struggling with time. These can be fun and just as meaningful to the giver.
Happy Birthday!
