HAPPY NEW YEAR FROM KINDERGARTEN!

with Ms. Jeanne and Friends

Welcome Back!

We are having a wonderful start to the brand new year! I think this class has been the most prepared for winter class I've ever had! All of our children have all of their winter gear! Please be sure to send: a hat, a winter coat, waterproof boots, snow pants, and mittens or gloves every day. Each student is welcome to keep an extra pair of snow pants here at school.

We go outside every day unless it is raining or the temperature is under 20 degrees with the wind chill.

We really need kleenex! Please send a box of kleenex in by Monday, January 11th!

Learning Concepts and Skills in January:

Science: Plants! Winter Weather! Wood and Paper!

Social Studies: The Months of the Year and Martin Luther King

Math: Counting Strategies (some friends will count by 1's and 10's to 100) (some friends will count by 5's to 100) Adding and Subtracting using +1 and -1 with toys and equations

(1+1=2, 2+1=3, 3-1=2, 2-1=1)

Reading: We are using picture and letter clues to read unknown words in our stories.

Writing: We are stretching words to hear the first, middle and last sounds when we are writing. We are using two finger spaces between words when we are writing sentences.

All friends should be able to easily and quickly write all upper and lower case letters.

Please take time to watch your child write. Is your child holding the pencil correctly? Is your child writing letters starting at the top?

I see some children writing letters from the bottom up. It's hard to change habits.

Now is the time to practice, practice, practice!

Your time and attention now will really help your child to be a successful student throughout the year!

The January School Calendar is coming home on Wednesday.
