Cardinal Connection
Back to School Edition
The following information details the structure of the Digital Learning Schedule for Duncan Creek Elementary
Daily Live Check In
Begin each day with a morning meeting with the whole class to develop a classroom community, provide connection opportunities for peers, and introduce the learning for the day. The morning meeting will take place at the same time each day.
Balance of Synchronous and Asynchronous Teaching and Learning Opportunities
Synchronous (live) lessons will focus on content and AKS needing more support.
Small group and individual synchronous instruction will take place for students daily to differentiate their learning based on formative assessment and classwork results.
Cardinal Time may be small group or individual synchronous lessons.
Teachers will hold a minimum of 4-5 small groups a day across content areas.
Asynchronous (recorded) mini-lessons will provide students with independent practice on content and AKS (Academic Knowledge and Skills).
Content Areas
Students will receive instruction in ELA (English/Language Arts) and MA (Math) daily following the district instructional framework.
SC (Science) and SS (Social Studies) instruction will alternate.
4th and 5th grade teachers will let students know if they are on Schedule A or Schedule B when they call to welcome the student to the class.
The schedule below is for Monday-Thursday.
Fridays
No new content provided to students on Fridays.
Assessments and/or interventions may be given.
Teachers will communicate their Friday schedule.
Teacher Office Hours
Teachers will have office hours for individual questions from students and parents from 3:05pm - 4:00pm daily. Additionally, 8:00am - 8:50am is open by appointment.
Special Areas
Students will stay with the same special all week.
Students should complete two lessons/projects by the end of the week.
Special Areas teachers will post live and recorded lessons and assignments.
Devices
Ideally all students should have access to a device (smart phone, tablet, chrome book/laptop) for digital learning. Some parts of the school day can be done on a smartphone (live check in), tablet (recorded lesson) and others involving Google Classroom are best on a chrome book/laptop. While the school does have some chrome books (currently 178), there are not enough to make 1:1 devices for all 1200 students. We will be checking out our limited supply to those most in need first. Many parents have already contacted the school and we have a list of these students. At this time, our list far exceeds our inventory. If you cannot afford a device, we want to be here to support you. If you can afford a device, please do so for your child.
School Supplies
At this time, parents should only purchase the items needed for digital learning. Your child’s teacher will communicate any essential items you will need during the week of August 3rd. Our priority right now is for you to focus on device access for your child.
