Hello Awesome Teachers!
As part of the Adjunct Committee, we will be handling Honor Roll this year. Below is the criteria for Honor Roll and Principal's Honor Roll. The expectation is to give students certificates and medals.
Note: ETK-TK have different report cards. Teachers will be selecting students in those grades to receive certificates for Special Recognition.
Lead Team members will be presenting awards in each individual classroom on Friday, November 19, 2021. If you have any questions, please reach out to any of the ELA Adjunct members: Ms. Venzor, Ms. Faulkner, Ms. R. Marquez, Ms. V. Chavez, Ms. Martinez, and Mr. Melendez.😊

Posted Questions
TLF 3b2: Discussion Techniques and Student Participation
Intended content area: English Language Arts/Science/Social Studies
In teams of 3-4, students rotate through stations to answer questions posted around the classroom. One student reads the question, and the group discusses the answer using evidence from the text and established classroom discussion techniques. They highlight their answer in the text and place the number of the question next to it. Students then rotate to another question. After all questions have been discussed, students write their answers independently. As a class, discussion takes place about the strategies used and findings discovered. This technique allows the students to walk around, participate in their learning, and collaborate with their classmates. By monitoring the conversations, the teacher can quickly determine who is understanding the concepts. (Excerpt from Give-one-Get-one Handbook pg. 16) Look for the Give-One-Get-One Handbook in our Google Shared Drive in the Classroom Discussion folder for more structures like this one.
2021-2022 SPSA Measurable Goal
By June 2022, English Learners scoring proficient (Overall Level 4) on ELPAC will increase from 7% to 30% as measured by the Summative ELPAC assessment.

Self Care Tip: Liven up your environment to spark joy and comfort. As the month of October begins consider decorating/ displaying things you enjoy looking at either in your home or in your classroom. (ie. Fall decor, Halloween decor, Dia de los Muertos Altar)
Step into STEAM-Ms. Muro, STEAM Instructional Coach
Hello all!
Wow! It’s hard to believe that October is here. Time flies when you’re having fun! Even though the weather hasn’t changed much, we are halfway into our first trimester and hopefully halfway through our first IIS/STEAM Unit. Erica Lee (LDE STEAM Coach) and I will be providing PD next month. To better meet your needs, we emailed everyone a survey with a few questions. To date, only 6 teachers have responded. I hope that you will take the time to complete the survey. It’s like voting, be heard! I appreciate each and every one of you! Thanks for all that you do for our kiddos! As always, if you have any questions or need help with anything, shoot me an email or come by Room 5.

Teachers Needed!
Focus on Classroom Observations-Standard 3: Delivery of Instruction
I we visit classrooms, we will be focusing on the following two elements:
3b2. Discussion Techniques and Student Participation Techniques are used to ensure that all students share their thinking around challenging questionsEffective Practice: Teacher uses intentional, differentiated strategies to engage all students in discussion, attempting gradual release from teacher-directed to student initiated conversation. Students participate in intellectually challenging discussions.
3c1. Standards-Based Projects, Activities and Assignments Standards-aligned learning activities cognitively engage students in the lesson
Effective Practice: Instructional projects, activities and assignments are aligned to the instructional standards, require higher levels of thinking, are culturally relevant, and may include real-world application. Most students are cognitively engaged, constructing their own understanding and exploring content. The learning activities are differentiated, as necessary, to meet the learning needs of student subgroups.
These are the Glows and Grows form my observations this week:
Glows
- 1/2 classrooms were engaged in differentiated instruction during my observation of Literacy Academies.
- 1/2 classrooms displayed charts/information to help students work independently while the teacher worked with students in small group.
Grows
- Literacy Academies provides us with the opportunity to target instruction for our students by providing enrichment or targeted instruction.
Focus for Next Week
This week, we will continue visiting classrooms during Literacy Academy time. We will be looking for differentiated instruction-focus on targeted skill for each group.
