Willing to Donate? We Need Books for Book Clubs/Literature Circles!
We have exhausted Woodland's supply of higher level books in their book room. Can you help? Below is a list of four books that students may enjoy and find a good fit. I would prefer 5 copies of each book. You don't have to buy all 5 if you're interested! Even purchasing one would help us! Anything your donate would stay with the Avondale GATE program. Please email me to let me know what you'd like to buy so I can keep track:)

We Finished Our Book!
Hi there!
I’m Bryce Broughton, and I am here to talk about what we did this week for the secret garden.
So, to start, on Monday we finished the book. *Claps* Shoutouts to Mrs. Lopez because she was the one who read chapters 24-27. 27 is the last chapter of The Secret Garden. Then on Tuesday and Wednesday we did nothing. On Thursday…We had a discussion about “Magic” and we discussed that magic was something that is a coincidence, like when you did not want it to rain, and it was raining, and you said, “STOP, RAIN! STOP, I SAY!” and it stopped raining, and then you go like “Welp.”. We also discussed about change. On Friday, we will have 10 mins to finish up any late analysis work. Then we will do NON-SECRET GARDEN book clubs.
So, that just finishes this up.
Bye! ._.
What we did this week:
P2: Our P2 trait was Bravery!
Math: In math we are still doing math in our math books, and khan academy. We are doing curiosity break in the middle of math. With the help of Mrs. G and other friends along the way.
Science: We learned about the parts of a flower and what each part does. We are also comparing the differences between plant cells and animal cells as well as photosynthesis and the life cycle of plants. We had our test on Thursday.
Reading: In reading we have finished secret garden! We were so excited and have done a big Socratic circle on the " Magic" in secret garden. We also did a analysis packet for secret garden, and a mini story called "poor people" by Leo Tolstoy to relate to how the change happened to that story and the change in Secret Garden.
Writing: We are continuing with learning about parts of speech, Independent clauses and dependent clauses, run-ons, and sentence fragments. It is a really interesting and challenging topic and will help us for writing. :) We did our roots quiz.
Enrichment: differentiated supplemental learning

Creative corner
Three weeks ago we did a Emily Dickinson analyze about how the seasons effect our moods
This student wrote a poem about it:
The earth holds its breath in the silent snow
The stiff trees and the cold beings
While the earth is sleeping so
The animals a dozing
The trees white and bare
But the snowflakes are flowing
And there’s a crystal clear air
It makes me very quiet
And speak in a hush
As a look at the rabbits lyin’
In the tiny snowy bush
The earth needs it’s rest it really really does
So we must be quiet
We must not wake it up
Suddenly, out of nowhere
Suddenly, out of bein’
The earth is waking up the bears
The earth is making spring
It bursts into a song
And makes things grow
The church bells gong
The birds hop out of the snow
It gives a burst of energy and hops on out of bed
And I grasp onto it so,
That I play until my face is red
As I watch the melting snow
The work of summer
It’s a very special thing
Everything is lively
It overwhelms such a being
So much hustle
So much bustle!
No time for rest!
Mother nature is calling!
Have those busy bees do their best!
The hot dusty days
The sticky evening so
The windy perfect days
Forget about the snow
The cold cool water refreshing that it is
The lively world about us
No wonder it’s a season for kids!
Fall runs around the bend as the earth settles in its bed
It brings a sorrow to people, as the summer ends
But for me as the earth gets all snuggly
The best is just beginning
Not to hot
Not to cold
Not to windy
Not to bold
Not to vivid and pretty and sharp
But not to crazy and not to hard
My morning being sharp and ready with the hottest sunlight of day
The vivid scenes and hard-working beings make me come out today
My evening feeling cool and calm and windy, most very pleasant
The smells and quiet call to me like a little present
And even though the earth is getting ready to sleep once again
The earth is just getting tucked in
Fluffing it’s trees and then
Getting ready to be blanketed in snow
As the seasons start all over again
