News from the Library
September 2021
It’s Library Time!
Here are some good habits to reinforce in the classroom and at home:
Make note of your library day. Books are due no later than your library day, and can be turned in earlier if you want.
Please remember to put books in backpacks the night before your library visit. Books need to be returned to the teacher's library book spot upon arrival at school.
Find a safe place at home to keep library books so they don't get lost or damaged.
Use clean hands when reading a library book and turn the pages gently. Use a bookmark.
Keep library books away from younger children who might know how to take care of a library book.
It's strongly encouraged to keep library books in a large plastic bag to protect it against food and water spills in backpacks.
Keep library books away from food, water and pets.
Make reading fun with your student! Let them tell you about the words and pictures they know. It helps them become better readers.
Book Care Video: Don’t Let the Pigeon Touch the Books!
Use the 5 Finger Rule to choose a book that’s just right.
September 24th, the used book sale will be starting. It will be held every Thursday, unless it’s raining, just outside the library. Proceeds of the sale go to buying books that students are asking for. It’s a great way to support the library. Only 25 cents a book!
Support your child’s love of reading by donating new books to the library! Any new hardcover books that are purchased and donated are greatly appreciated! Here’s a link: Amazon Wish List. Donated books will have a book plate in the front of the book with your child’s name and they’ll have first check out privileges.
Another way to support the library is to donate gently used children’s books, copy paper or kleenex. You can drop them off in the library with a note.
September Choice Board Celebrating National Hispanic Month and much more!
Let’s get the school year off to a fantastic start and make it a game changing year!
Technology
Chromebook Initiative
Grades TK-2: Students in grades TK-2 will have access to Chromebooks for use during the instructional day.
TK -2 devices are intended to stay at school and will n ot be sent home with students.
Grades 3-5: Chromebooks with cases will be issued to all students in grades 3-5.
As of August 2021, PUSD plans for the assigned Chromebook to remain with Elementary students until the end of 7th grade. Secondary students will keep the assigned Chromebook until they graduate high school and/or leave PUSD.
The Chromebook agreement form was included in the 2021-22 Online Registration and Enrollment packet. Therefore, students do not need to complete another Chromebook form before receiving their device during the school day. If the Chromebook agreement was not filled out previously, the family must complete and turn in a paper copy of the form (linked here) before a Chromebook will be issued.
If your student(s) is leaving the district and you’ve been issued a Chromebook, you must return it and the charging cord before you leave. If they’re staying within PUSD and are transferring schools, you take the district-issued device with you.
For more information about Chromebook policies, how to get started, answers to Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs), troubleshooting, and more, see PUSD's Chromebook Initiative page.
How to Update Your Child's Chromebook OS
If you are seeing unexpected errors with your WWES Chromebook, it may need an operating system (OS) update. We've found that an update fixes 95% of Chromebook issues and it's not difficult to do. See these steps to do the update. Be sure that the Chromebook is connected to the Internet before you start.
Other Technology Assistance for Parents

Please, no stickers on the device. It belongs to PUSD.
