Walk Throughs
Mandy and I will start walk throughs this week. The walk throughs are short and will last 10-15 minutes. We will complete 1 round of shorts for every teacher and then we will begin the long observations. We will send out a "window" of time to let you know when the long observations will be for your grade level.
The purpose for evaluations is to simply improve instruction. Please know we are looking for the positive events happening in your classroom. We know this year is going to look and feel different in your classroom. That is OK- we get it! We are living it, too.
Virtual United Way Campaign
The United Way will be asking all Edgelea Employees to join them for a short virtual meeting on September 10 at 3:15. I will send out the link later this week when it is made available to me. Please read below for more important information regarding the benefits of United Way and what is offers our Edgelea families and the Lafayette Community. PLEASE CONSIDER donating to the UNITED WAY this year.
As you know, the United Way supports our Edgelea families in a variety of ways. This year, they are offering HOT SPOTS to families that have several students doing eLearning in a home but have limited bandwidth. They financially support the Beck Lane Boys and Girls Club which many of our families utilize.
United Way of Greater Lafayette is bringing relief to the area’s most vulnerable individuals and families as well as funded partner agencies as our community begins to experience the short-term and long-term impacts of the coronavirus outbreak.
Food distribution to students affected by school closures and other food insecure populations that are isolated or lack access
2. Rent, utility, and prescription medication assistance for those displaced by employment interruption
3. Access to childcare for families effected by closures especially for essential medical and emergency response staff
4. Services and shelter for people experiencing homelessness who lack the resources to stay safe and receive medical treatment
5. Access to mental health and substance use services during a time when isolation can significantly impact progress
Friday Notes from Dr. Layton
Please make sure you read Dr. Layton's Friday Notes each week. This week he discussed the new Frontline Central. Everyone will need to access this in order to sign the 2020 State Assessment Security and Integrity Agreement (more information to come).
Safe Schools
Additional Information from Dr. Layton
Safe Schools continues to be our preferred method of reaching staff with what we call compliance trainings. The state requires some trainings to be done annually, some to be done every other year and some to be done every three years. All compliance trainings mandated by the state for the 20-21 cycle in the LSC are on your Safe Schools account. Most have a deadline of October 31 but we encourage you not to procrastinate. Safe Schools will continue to send e-mails to you on a weekly basis until all mandatory trainings are completed. Certificates of completion can be printed and uploaded to teachers LVIS professional growth plans to receive PGP’s for teacher license renewal. Do NOT send certificates to Hiatt. We can see and access all completed certificates from the Safe Schools e-warehouse. You can direct all concerns about Safe Schools to myself jlayton@lsc.k12.in.us or Heather McCarter at hmccarter@lsc.k12.in.us. The Safe Schools login page is here: https://lsc-in.safeschools.com/login
HOUSE COLORS
Many staff members have already selected their "HOUSE COLORS" and have turned in t-shirt sizes. If you have not, please see Deb Davidson and select your house color.
On September 18, we will have students in each of our classrooms, do a sorting of houses. They will select their colors, too. On Oct. 8, we will distribute House Color T-Shirts to all students. Everyone will wear their house colors on Oct. 9.
It would be awesome if we had our staff teams do a video introduction to their House Color for the classes to watch. For example all of the YELLOW House would get together and create a fun, welcoming 2-3 minute video. The classroom teachers would play the videos for the classes on HOUSE Sorting Day. This would be on September 18th. We will distribute staff t-shirts on September 9. We will also send out a master list of staff members and who is in what HOUSE.
Smile Photo
Please send a photo of yourself with a big smile to Deb Davidson. We have a plan that is sure to bring smiles to your faces.
Deb Davidson ddavidson@lsc.k12.in.us
We are excited to see all of your beautiful, smiling faces!
