History and Culture
The Empire state building on May 01, 1931 was built in New York City.
The idea for the Empire State Building is said to have been born of a competition between Walter Chrysler of the Chrysler Corporation and John Jakob Raskob of General Motors, to see who could create the taller building. The entire building went up in just over a year under budget of $40 million. The building is 1,250 feet high. It's a 102-story skyscraper located in Midtown Manhattan in New York City.
Art and Design
The Empire State Building is an American cultural icon. It's designed in the distinctive Art Deco style and has been named as one of the Seven Wonders of the modern World by American Society of Civil engineers. The Empire State building and its "street floor" interior are designated landmarks of the New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission. It was $550 million renovation, with $120 million spent to transform the building into a more efficient and eco friendly structure. It is the Tallest leadership in Energy and Environmental design.
