Message from Dr. Connery
Greetings Simpson Families,
On April 9th, GCPS announced that all schools will be implementing a flexible schedule on Fridays. Students will not receive any new assignments on this day. This day will be designated to provide additional opportunities for students to work digitally with their teacher in small groups, review past material, complete assignments, and take part in connection activities.
We were applauded for taking the initiative with creating an innovative "Catch Up Day" model, where our days differed depending upon the grade level, prior to this notification. However, in order to remain consistent across the district, (between elementary, middle and high school) this model would be more beneficial for all. Therefore, we look forward to "Flex Fridays" for the rest of the school year at Simpson Elementary. If you have any additional questions, please do not hesitate to contact me or your child's teacher.
Thank you for your flexibility and your support!
Proud to be your principal,
Dr. Connery

All Pro Dads April 2020 meeting
I want to give a SHOUT OUT to our Simpson All Pro Dad's! In a time of social distancing, they thought it would be an excellent idea to connect with our families and hold our first VIRTUAL All Pro Dads Zoom Session at Simpson Elementary. It was truly impressive to see approximately 15-17 families in attendance on Tuesday, April 14th at 7 a.m.! I want to applaud our dad's with seeking ideas to keep some consistency in our students lives, with trying to stay engaged in our NEW normal. The topic for this month was Forgiveness. I had the opportunity to be our April guest speaker for All Pro Dads. During this time, I spoke about forgiveness and how to overcome adversity. Immediately after a question and answer session about forgiveness, students participated in a home-style scavenger hunt. Therefore, please join me in thanking our All Pro Dads Leadership Team, Chad Saleeby, Mike Trace, and Taylor Hammett. We appreciate them holding our first virtual All Pro Dads Session in GCPS and for keeping our Simpson Families connected!

Counselors Corner - Self Care
We realize a lot of you are trying to juggle working from home, helping your child or children with schoolwork, and feeling stressed about what is happening in our world. Here are a few ideas:
Self-Care (for at least 30 minutes daily)-take a walk, read a book or magazine, watch a favorite show. Decompress.
Connect with our kids-movies, games, walks, puzzles, house cleaning, etc.
Prepare and eat dinner together-each person in the family can take turn picking the meal. Everyone can help with setting the table, making a salad, cooking, cleaning up, etc.

We have just about 1 month left of the program, and because we are virtual and have no coach/athlete ratios, we welcome ANYONE (even teachers!) at Simpson who is interested in joining to please go ahead and contact Ali Heintz (alison.heintz@gmail.com). You can also join our private Facebook Group where we post game ideas, running information, conduct weekly live "Closing Ceremonies", and offer a space to motivate and celebrate all kids in motion. Hope to see you on the roads! (At a safe +6 foot distance.)
IMPORTANT MESSAGE FROM THE PTA
By now you have all heard the news that the remainder of the school year will be completed in the safety of our homes with digital learning. These are unprecedented times and we are working closely with the school administration to adjust to our new norm and working on a plan to filter our remaining funds to meet the needs of the school, Simpson families and the community.
Thank you to all our parents and families for your donations, time and commitment to the Simpson PTA this year.
The Executive Board is still busy working out many end of year details with the school. We will be in touch soon regarding closing out this school year, yearbooks and looking ahead to 2020-2021.
Wishing all our families health and safety during this time.
Best,
Mallory Even and Brittany Adams
