Dear Thornhill Families,

I hope everyone had a great Labor Day weekend. It was such a beautiful weekend for being outdoors. Speaking of outdoors, we are just one week away from the WALKATHON on Saturday, Sept. 17th. Thank you to all who have signed up to support this wonderful event. If you would like to sign up, there is a bulletin board in the school lobby with many ways you can support. We are looking forward to seeing you all there.

SEPTEMBER 16th Parking- There is a memorial at St. John’s Church on this day and we are not able to the church parking lot all day. Please make arrangements to avoid congestion.

ST MATH- This year with the generous support of the PFC and a grant, All grade levels will be doing ST MATH. What is ST MATH? STMath is a software-based math program that incorporates the latest research on learning and the brain, and promotes mastery-based learning and mathematical understanding. Whether in the classroom, computer lab or at home, learning never stops with ST MATH. What is Spatial-Temporal Reasoning? Born out of neuroscience research at the University of California, Irvine, ST MATH developer MIND Research Institute's unique approach accesses the brain’s innate “spatial-temporal” reasoning ability. This ability, which lies at the core of innovative thinking and sophisticated problem-solving, allows the brain to hold visual, mental representations in short-term memory and to evolve them in both space and time, thinking multiple steps ahead.

ST MATH NIGHT FOR PARENTS- OCTOBER 11th - Stay tuned for ST MATH night for parents to learn more.

Have a great weekend and I will see you Saturday at the Walkathon!

Saturday, Sep. 17th, 10am

5880 Thornhill Drive

Oakland, CA

Dear Thunderbird Parents,

One week to go until the Olympic Walkathon, Saturday, Sept. 17!

If you haven’t already, go to to customize your child’s page, send emails to friends and family, and make donations. If you didn’t receive the information last week from your child, visit for all the details and forms. The first 200 kids to check in for the Walkathon with at least $30 in donations will get a Walkathon-logo T-shirt to wear with pride during the event!

It also takes an (Olympic) village to make this event a success, so please stop by the Walkathon bulletin board in the front lobby and sign up for an hour or two. Volunteer with a friend or make a new one! If you can’t make it to the lobby, email us and let us know when you’re available and we can find something for you to help with.

The Olympics theme is a great reminder how important teamwork and community spirit are to our school. This is one of the most fun events of the year, and the fundraising you do has a huge impact on our school, so plan to be there – for an hour or for the whole day!

Thanks from Team Walkathon!
