October 2021
Monthly Theme: Integrity

Principal's Message
Hello Fir Grove Families,
Wow, September has flown by! So much learning has been happening. There is joy and laughter in the classrooms and playground.
Families we are excited to dive into more learning this month. Even though October 8th is not a school day for students, teachers will spend October 8th in Professional Development doing many things. Part of the morning will be spent in progress monitoring meetings to share student successes and needs. Teams of teachers work to support each classroom teacher and help create support plans for students. We will also continue our learning on the Oregon State Bill 13 Tribal History/Shared History, new social studies standards and lessons. WE are committed to providing an environment in all our classrooms — including those outside of social studies content areas — for students to learn from diverse perspectives and take action to promote equity inside and outside our schools.
Conferences are coming up on October 27-28th. Families will Zoom with classroom teachers to share learning progress, create some learning goals, and ask questions. Our work at school cannot be accomplished without your partnership at home. You are a vital part of learning! Stay tuned for more information on that.
Warmly,
Erin Miles, Principal

Safety
Currently we are utilizing outdoor space to eat, but this is weather dependent. When it is not possible to eat outside, we have two indoor spaces set up for eating. Classes will eat in the cafeteria and the Multi-Purpose Room. Students are six feet apart. We have seating charts.
Students have done a fantastic job of remembering their assigned spots, even our Kinders and 1st graders!
Recess Outside
Students will have recess outside even if it is raining. I see students coming to school without jackets or in sweatshirts. If it is a rainy downpour, then we move recess to the undercover area. Please make sure your child has a jacket with a hood. If you need a jacket, please contact Ms. Caryl, Counselor, maureen_caryl@beaverton.k12.or.us.

Talented and Gifted
Every year students are considered for Talented and Gifted services in the Beaverton School District. These services are provided by your child's classroom teacher(s). Oregon law and District policy define gifted students as those who score at or above the 97th percentile on a standardized, nationally normed test of mental ability and/or academic achievement in reading and/or math. Behavioral, learning, and/or performance information is also considered before a student is identified for TAG services.
If you think your child might qualify for TAG services, you may wish to complete the Parent Information Form that is available in our school’s office or linked here. Completing this form gives our school TAG Committee more information about your child, but it is not required. All qualified students will be considered regardless of the form’s completion.
Nomination Forms on the Talented and Gifted website here.
Please complete and return the Parent Information Form to your child’s teacher.
