4 Day Week Next Week
Next week, there will be no school on Friday, April 22nd. This means that Ranger Round Up will be held on Thursday, April 21st.
DIYU is coming up!
DIYU is going to be Thursday, April 21st. Your child will be coming home with their DIYU class that they have been enrolled in. This will give you ample time to get any materials needed for their DIYU class.
Math
Students were able to master their learning targets this week. They added three digit numbers with one, two, and three digits. They even learned algorithm and regrouping. This is a hard concept, but they achieve it without a problem. Please ask your child to teach you a strategy he or she learned in class. The examples below can show you how your child added his or her numbers.
Science
We are wrapping up our Science unit on food chains. We have had a blast learning about producers, consumers, herbivores, carnivores, omnivores and decomposers. Ask your child what he/she knows about those vocabulary words! Also, ask your child why food chains are important, and how do they help our environment?
Reader's Workshop
This week in Reader's Workshop we began our two week long unit on poetry. We learned about some of the tools that poetry uses, like alliteration, imagery, repetition, and rhyme. These tools help us to understand and find patterns in poems. We listened to and read through various poems to find these tools of poetry.
Writer's Workshop
We used what we learned in Reader's Workshop to write our own poems. We wrote tongue twisters, acrostic poems, biopoems, cinquains, and haikus. We first wrote a practice poem then we made a published copy to start a poetry book.
Social Studies
In Social Studies, we are taking our knowledge of inventions to plan and create an invention of our own that solves a problem that we see in our lives. We are working in the maker's space to bring our inventions to life!
