School Year Opening!

This has been a crazy-busy start to the year here at WSWSHE SLS (as I'm sure it has been everywhere!). Thank you for your patience as we work through all of the kinks in OPALS.

If you have sent me an email with any requests, and I haven't gotten back to you, I apologize! Feel free to send me a reminder email, though I will be going back through and trying to catch things that have slipped through the cracks.

Hope to see you November 30 at our Regional SLS PD day with Shannon Miller! - J’aimé

Upcoming Professional Development

Future Ready Librarians - November 30

The November 30 workshop has been moved from Capital Region to WSWHE BOCES in order to accomodate more people. Go My Learning Plan to register; if it is full, be sure to put your name on the waiting list. We usually have cancellations. (Registration is still through Capital Region BOCES MLP; the meeting is in Saratoga).

To see more information, go to Shannon Miller's blog The Library Voice.

School Librarian Teacher-Leader Cohort

The 4 Regional BOCES SLS are together offering "Changing Beliefs through Teacher Leadership, Library Leaders Cohort I" for the 2017 - 2018 school year. You can nominate yourself, a peer, or can be nominated by an administrator or SLS Director.

This is a great opportunity to explore how you can become or continue to be a teacher-leader in your school building and district! Contact J’aimé for the application form, or to nominate someone so I can forward the application form to them.

For more information, see the file (below).

Applications must be completed, signed by the building administrator, and submitted by November 21, 2017

Cool Tools for Schools is Back!

Contact J’aimé to get on the list, and to send you the registration link.

Need Information from You!

Below are links in Google for you to add information.

Contact Information - Please update no later than Friday October 27. Remember to initial in the far right column, even if everything is correct (so we know you checked it).

NYLA Memberships - If you want to be a member this year, please complete the form. Council and Communications Coordinators memberships are covered by SLS, but we need you to complete the information. Individuals need to send a check payable to NYLA for $30 to SLS. Deadline is Friday October 20.

Battle of the Books Registration - If your school is participating, please either complete the registration information, or forward to the coach(es) so they can complete it. We prefer to have one per building that includes all information (but can work with it if submitted individually).

Interlibrary Loan - Statistics

We are collecting Interlibrary Loan Statistics via Google forms this year. We will send out a new link each month for the previous month, but will have ALL links available to you on our LibGuides so you can go back and report at any time. The Google form for September 2017 ILL collection is available now.

The Google form is ONLY for Interlibrary loans that are NOT done electronically through OPALS. We will collect all of those statistics. These are for ILLs outside of that - either a direct email not going through OPALS, or one you've requested through us or CDLC, directly to a public library, etc.

If you need a "refresher" on the OPALS ILL process, see the series of screencasts on our LibGuides. If you are new and need a username/password, and would like more information (or if you need a refresher), please contact Karin Howansky who can arrange online or in-person training.
