Wonderful Writers!

The last Author Celebration was a great success! It was such a pleasure to have you all come into the classroom to see and hear the wonderful work that your son or daughter had created each day in school! The kids really enjoyed showing off their pieces and truly felt like authors! If you weren't able to make it to the Author Celebration, contact me so I can send home your child's writing portfolio to be shared with you! :-)

It's the Final Countdown!

How is it almost the end of May already?!?!? Well as they say, time flies when you are having fun! Just the other day I was looking at the class photo that was taken back in October and it's amazing to see how much the class has grown and matured! It has been such a pleasure having each and every one of your children in my class - we have learned a lot, laughed a lot, conversed in deep thinking, and truly have enjoyed each other's company! I am going to miss each and every one of them . . . .BUT . . .there still are a few more weeks left, so the following is a list of important dates to keep in mind as 4th grade slowly comes to an end:

Bringing Picture Books to Life Through Reader's Theater

The students are working on fluency, intonation, expression, pacing, and enunciation through reader's theater. The class has been split up into collaborative groups that are working on taking a picture book and turning it into a play. As playwrights, they are practicing the format of dramatic writing as they are composing scripts based off a piece of prose. Once the scripts are complete, students will then have a chance to act out the performance utilizing the strategies and skills of fluent readers.
