Principal's Message - Kellogg Update

Dear Arleta Families - I know that many of you have asked for updates regarding Kellogg Middle School. Here is the latest. Please know as we get new info we will get it out to families. I anticipate that a planning principal will be hired at some point in 2020. Once that person is on board we will get weekly updates and have in person info sessions for both families and students. Stay tuned, Diana

Kellogg groundbreaking ceremony will take place on Saturday, June 1
The start of construction of a new Kellogg Middle School is only a few weeks away. To celebrate, a groundbreaking ceremony will take place at the site of the new school on Saturday, June 1 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at 6909 SE Powell Blvd. Speakers, local dignitaries and music will add to the festive atmosphere. The event also provides the public an opportunity to meet the project team and learn more about the new school. Kellogg will be the first entirely new school to be built in SE Portland in many decades and will provide students and staff with a state-of-the-art middle school facility. Kellogg is one of the first major construction projects funded by the voter-approved 2017 Bond.

Kellogg construction update and open house on Wednesday, May 29
If you live near the Kellogg school site, please join us for a construction update open house on Wednesday, May 29 from 4:30 p.m.to 6:30 p.m. in the field at the north end of the Kellogg project site. The open house is an opportunity to meet the Kellogg project team and the contractor. This is an opportunity to learn more about the construction impacts on the community and neighborhood and how the contractor will work to minimize any inconveniences that may occur.

Kellogg rebuild highlights
The Kellogg site will include over 100,000 square feet of new construction, including a performing arts stage, a multi-purpose gym and assembly space, a large, flexible commons space, and dedicated outdoor learning spaces. The school will be a focal point of the neighborhood, offering a new educational center and resource hub for the community. For more information: View the new Kellogg Rebuild info-flyer | Español | Tiếng Việt | 中文 | Русский | Soomaali or visit the Kellogg rebuild website.

Kellogg’s boundary will be determined in 2020
The feeder path and school boundaries for the new Kellogg Middle School have not been determined. District-wide boundary decisions will be examined by the PPS Board of Education as part of an Enrollment and Program Balancing effort that is underway now.

CALLING ALL LOST LIBRARY BOOKS - We miss you!

Every year Arleta's school library loses books. Books that get lost, eaten by the dog, shoved under a car seat. We are hoping to recover as many books as possible before the end of the school year. We know that life happens and that dryers do eat library books. If you are unsure of what books your students have out, send an email to Ms. Street tstreet@pps.net. Ms. Street can also talk to you about any library fines you have and options you have for taking care of them. The library is an integral part of our community and we want to make sure our collection is available for everyone. Questions regarding library programming, book check out, fines, OBOB and all things library should be directed to Ms. Street tstreet@pps.net
