Learning for Life
Club Liberator
Beginning Tuesday, September 8th, we will have tutoring available in the library after school. The extended library hours will continue each week Monday through Thursday from 3:00-6:00 p.m. The library is also open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday beginning at 7:15 a.m. Teachers will be on hand to help with math or English or any other subject.
Students are also welcome to use library resources during these times even if they don't need tutoring. They can check out books, use the wi-fi with their Chromebooks, or just use the space to read or study.
Each day right after school, we will also have snacks provided in the library at no charge as long as they last.
If you have questions about our tutoring opportunities, please do not hesitate to call either the principals or counselors. The school phone is 326-5228.

Chromebooks are providing new ways of learning at BHS
Students and staff have done a great job with our new Chromebooks in the classroom. Our network upgrades have really helped to make the school ready for all of the new devices. Teachers also worked very hard to learn ways to use the Chromebooks to support learning. While there are still a few wrinkles to iron out, overall we are really pleased with how the implementation is going. Thanks to parents, too, for supporting the added responsibility of having a student with a school-issued device.

New Programs Offered For Students
We have brand new opportunities for students this year at BHS. Automotive Technology allows students to learn basic repair and maintenance concepts and explore the possibility of a career in the automotive repair field. Student meet in this class for an entire morning or afternoon every other day. The extended minutes allows the class to work on vehicles and have real, hands-on experience. The demand for the course was very high for this first year with classes completely full across the board. Since it is a hands on experience, classes are a little smaller than normal. There are 45 students total in the program. Eventually, we hope to have NATEF accreditation which would allow students to earn a Certification in General Maintenance and Light Repair while they are in high school.
Another new program this year is actually located in Springfield. GoCaps is an internship program that developed with cooperation among many area school districts. GoCaps has locations at Cox North (Health Care), Springfield Remanufacturing (Industrial), and Missouri State University (Entreprenuership). Cyber Safety Workshops Coming Soon
On October 5th and 6th, Bolivar R-1 will hold online safety workshops for students. Our guest will be Jennifer Schiffman, cyber safety educator with the Missouri Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.
She will provide workshops at various grade levels, including two at BHS, one for 9th/10th grades, and one for 11th/12th grades. These programs will help inform students about digital safety including avoiding digital drama, oversharing, predator awareness, reporting, and considering how one's digital activity can impact future opportunities and relationships.
A parent awareness meeting will provide critical information to families about internet safety. We hope everyone will attend.
