Student Handbook Highlight - Student Attendance
This week's student handbook highlight focuses on student attendance. In accordance with Illinois compulsory attendance requirements, it is the policy of CCSD93 (Board Policy 7:70) that students shall attend school on a regular basis. We believe that daily attendance, timeliness to class, and preparedness and participation in class supports academic success. It is the intention of our teachers to not only teach the subject matter, but also to encourage the positive attributes of regular attendance, punctuality, and participation.
A valid, excused cause for absence shall be:
Illness, including the mental or behavioral health of the student,
Observance of a religious holiday,
Death in the immediate family,
Family emergency,
Other situations beyond the control of the student (excluding vacations) or such other circumstances which cause reasonable concern to the parent for the mental, emotional or physical health or safety of the student.
Parents must call the school office at 630.588.5200 as soon as possible to inform the school of a student absence. In addition, students are expected to arrive to school on time. Medical appointments, funeral attendance, and situations beyond the control of the student as determined by the building principal are valid reasons for excused tardiness. Parents are expected to notify the school office if a student will be arriving late by calling the office or accompanying the student to the office to sign in.
Students who are absent, or who leave school for an illness during the day, will not be allowed to attend or participate in extracurricular activities until they have attended school. Students who have excused absence(s) from school will be allowed to make up work for equivalent academic credit. The time allowed for makeup work will generally be one school day for every class period missed, starting with the first day the student returns to school. It is the responsibility of the student (and his/her parent/guardian), not the teachers, to get the assignments, complete them, and turn them in, and to arrange a time with the teacher to make up any missed quizzes or tests.

Fall Sports
The fall sports season will begin on Tuesday! If your student is interested in participating in Cross Country (6-8), Girls Volleyball (7 & 8), or Boys Soccer (7 & 8), you must complete the sports commitment form that is on the Athletics website. A student will not be able to participate in a sport until the form has been submitted and our school nurse has received an updated physical.
Jay Stream coaches are eager to get their sports up and running. If you have any questions about specific dates or practice schedules, please do not hesitate to reach out to any of the coaches.
