A Message from the Principal

Dear Holy Family Catholic School Community,

Big picture

Last Thursday we celebrated our traditional Candle Mass and witnessed our 8th graders pass on the light of leadership to our 7th graders. It was a very moving and beautiful Mass, full of meaning for the whole community.

Friday was a super high energy day for the eighth graders! It started off with a Pep Rally in honor of the graduates, continued with an Eighth-Grade vs Faculty Volley Ball Game, and ended at noon for the traditional Walk-Out. We celebrated our Graduation Mass at 7:00pm Friday evening. We wish our graduates the very best as they prepare for high school!

Many thanks go to Mrs. Conway and Ms. Barker for heading up the research for our upcoming adoption of new ELA and SS textbooks in August. Our teachers studied many different ELA and SS textbooks and are very excited about the resources they have chosen:

  • Ms. Barker will teach preliminary Latin vocabulary to the MS once a week

I am thrilled to be bringing Thinking Maps to HFCS in August! Utilizing the Thinking Maps program from PK through 8th grade will give the students a consistent method of processing and sorting information to support higher levels of thinking and learning. We will host a presentation on Thinking Maps to parents in September.

  • “Thinking Maps are consistent visual patterns linked directly to eight specific thought processes. By visualizing our thinking, we create concrete images of abstract thoughts. These patterns help all students reach higher levels of critical and creative thinking, essential components of 21st Century education. In a school-wide implementation, Thinking Maps establish a consistent Language for Learning.” https://www.thinkingmaps.com

Our Athletic program will return in 2021-2022 and will include 3-on-3 basketball for 3rd/4th grade.

Band will be offered to students in grades 4th through 8th next year.

Robotics Club, and other extracurriculars, will return in 2021-2022.

After much consideration, HFCS will combine the next year’s 6th and 7th grade classes into one class next year. I believe that both grades will benefit socially and academically from this merger.

Fiesta Day

Thursday, May 27

This year we will celebrate Fiesta Day on our last half-day of school (noon dismissal), Thursday, May 27, and students may dress up in festive Mexican attire. We will begin our day with Mass, followed by classroom activities and the last homeroom party of the year. Thank you, room parents for organizing the classroom parties!

This has been an extraordinary year; it has been challenging and also very rewarding! We were all so happy to get back on campus last August, it felt so good to return to school (even with masks and social distancing) after stay-at-home orders and a full quarter of distance learning. We made many sacrifices this year to keep our precious students safe, and it paid off - we did not have to close the school or quarantine any classes.

I am so very grateful to our faculty and staff, and our dear parents, for going the extra mile this year for our students, thank you all for your generosity of spirit during this unusual year. Our faith, our love of the students, and the deep commitment that we all have for Holy Family Catholic School kept us going this year. And now, we are ready for the year to end, and to celebrate the sense of freedom that summer gives us.

Have a safe and sunny summer!

Thank you, and God bless,

Ann Walters
