A Message from Mrs. Hoke

Hello Penny Road Parents & Guardians,

Our first two weeks of school have been great! It is wonderful to see our students making new friendships, rekindling old friendships, and acclimating themselves to their classrooms and teachers. As I have observed in many of the classrooms, solid instruction is happening and our teachers and staff are setting the stage for a strong academic school year.

Independence Day

Effective, tomorrow, September 12th, parents will no longer be allowed to walk their child to the classroom. We will continue to have staff ready and available to escort students should they need assistance. If you need to speak with your child's teacher we ask that you schedule an appointment in advance. Thank you for your cooperation as we settle into our new morning routines.

Emergency Procedures

This past Friday, our school walked through our emergency procedures and we practiced a lockdown drill in the cafeteria. This was only a walk-through exercise in order to familiarize our students and staff with how to respond to a drill in the event that the drill or an emergency happens during lunch times. We will have our unannounced yearly drills in the upcoming months.

School Lunch Information

Apply for free and reduced-price school meals

To receive free or reduced-price meals for the 2022-23 school year, families must submit a meal benefits application online at MySchoolApps.com. Paper copies will be available at the school’s office. For families who completed the 2021-22 meal benefits application, the benefit continues for their student's first 30 school days of the 2022-23 school year. At elementary schools, full-paid breakfast will be $1.50 and lunch will be $3.00. At middle and high schools, full-paid breakfast will be $1.75 and lunch will be $3.25.

Morning and Afternoon Procedures

I would like to give all of our parents who transport their children to school via car. Our carpool procedures have gone exceptionally well and we ask for you to continue to follow our procedures and guidelines in order to get our children safe on and off campus. Please reference the procedures in the body of the newsletter for additional information.

Parent Engagement Survey

As we continue to set our School Improvement Goals for the 2022 - 2023 school year, we asked that parents take a moment to complete a brief survey about our school in order that we may improve to best meet the needs of our families. The survey will be open through October 3rd.

Thank you for taking the time to complete the survey.

We are excited to start the new school year with a strong and active PTA! One of our goals for the year is to rebuild our volunteer base and bring back as many Penny Road traditions as possible. Please look over the list of committees and events and sign up if there is something that you would like to help with! We will touch base with you once you sign up to answer questions and discuss specifics.

The rock is available for weekly rental to families and staff of PRE for their use and enjoyment. Reserve the Spirit Rock for only $35.00 per week!
