WINKLER WEEKLY

Friday, September 18th

A MESSAGE FROM MR. GRAHAM

We had a great week at Winkler School and time seems to be flying by!

We are just finishing up our first round of our i-Ready assessments and students have done a fantastic job working through the assessments! For those new to the District, i-Ready is a web-based adaptive diagnostic assessment and instruction program. It assesses students' reading skills and math skills based on our state standards. Results from the assessments along with classroom work help us determine students' strengths and target areas.

The best thing we can do to help our students increase their academic success and beyond is to read with our children. Decades of early literacy research provides convincing evidence the best way an adult can help a child’s cognitive development and increase their academic success and beyond is to read with them every day. Please remind your child to read or read with them, especially when they say they have nothing to do for school.

WORKING WONDERS WITH WINKER'S READERS!

Winkler's students have been reading (and listening to) some great books in their classrooms. Take a look at what our students think about the books they are reading. Click on the links below to see what they have to say!

Kindergarten - The Alphabet Bug Book and Three Billy Goats Gruff

1st Grade - Moose Crossings by Stephanie Greene

2nd Grade - Henry and Mudge - Annie’s Perfect Pet by Cynthia Rylant

3rd Grade - One and Only Bob by Katherine Applegate

4th Grade - The Tiger Rising by Kate DiCamillo

We didn't forget about 4K! These great kids listen to several books a day. Here are some of their favorites read aloud in short videos.

THE DOT

Kindergartners listened to The Dot by Peter H. Reynolds. It's a beautiful story about a budding artist. They then made their very own "dots" to display on the wall near their classroom. You can listen to the book again here:

SHOW YOUR SCHOOL SPIRIT! SEPT 21-25

It's Homecoming Week next week and to celebrate, we are having our own Spirit Week. Please remember when dressing for fun events like these to make sure students can easily move, are weather appropriate, safe, school appropriate, and without props. And, as usual, masks will still need to be worn. We are looking forward to seeing more of the creative side of our great Winkler students!
