Kolb Eagle Flyer
December 2018
Message from Principal Clara Lee
Dear Kolb Families,
As we enter the holiday season, I just wanted to thank you for all of your support for our students. It was great to meet many of you during parent conferences. I am so proud of the wonderful progress our students are making and how they were able to talk about their accomplishments and goals for the next trimester. It really is important for students to be able to understand their learning targets, take ownership of their learning, and understand the strong correlation between effort and achievement.
Another thing that I have noticed in the classrooms in which students excel, are the oral language presentations (0LP). I enjoy listening to how articulate and organized our students are in presenting information to their peers. This is such an important skill for their future careers.
Thank you so much for your donations for our pajama, toy and school supplies drive for families that may be going through a rough patch. As you know, a whole community is struggling after the Camp Fire up north, and we want to do what we can to help them get back on their feet. I understand that school just re-opened today, and as the whole community is suffering loss, it would be great if we can be generous as they recover.
As we celebrated a month of Caring in November, I would like to ask a favor of our families to talk to students about caring about the school by practicing restroom etiquette. We would like to continue to have a clean facility and need your help in getting all students to be careful in the restrooms.
A special shout out to Ursala, Mindy, Trinh and Robbie for their help during the Character Assemblies, and for the lovely backdrops for the photos. I thoroughly enjoy entertaining our students during the assemblies, and hope that they look forward to honoring their peers for their outstanding effort.
Finally, I know we will all miss Mrs. Heisser, as she finishes out the year with us and then moves on to other adventures. Her contributions to Kolb are invaluable and we all truly appreciated her presence here.
Wishing you all a safe and happy holiday season, and all the best for starting a new year!
Sincerely,
Clara Lee

Is your child going to miss 5 - 10 consecutive days of school??
It is imperative that your student attends school daily. Lost classroom time is difficult to replace. However, if you find that you need an extended absence during the school year, you will need to request an Independent Study Contract. Independent Study is limited to once per school year and for a minimum of 5 school days / maximum of 10 school days. Requests should be made in the Kolb Office at least 10 school days prior to the absence. For more details please see the link below!
