K.I.S.S.
Simplicity
- Decide your TEK, what do you want your students to know? Unpack that TEK and know it backwards and forwards. Know what the prerequisites are and have a plan to intervene when a student doesn't understand. Know how to take the TEK deeper so you can extend kids that are already proficient.
- As a team, establish what proficiency looks like and how you are going to have the students show proficiency.
- Use all of your resources and individuality to teach this TEK through engaging and exciting lessons, formatively checking for understanding along the way and constantly monitoring your students progress.
- When your students are ready for the aforementioned assessment, give it to them and then meet as a collaborative team and dissect the data. Which group performed the best, did this teacher teach it differently, how can we group students across the grade as we move forward? Remember, these conversations in collaborative team meetings are not meant to point fingers, it's an autopsy without blame. These conversations are intended to strengthen everyone's teaching. We all know that we are better collectively than we are as individuals.
My goal for us as collaborative teams is to do a better job of number 4, I feel this is where we need the most polishing. Learning links is a great resource for number 1, you can take the knowledge you get from here and then move to the learning continuum on the NWEA MAP site. These are just pieces of the resources you can use to help you in your planning, but when we use them as a collaborative team and continue to work together, and combine our powers, there's nothing that we can't help our students accomplish!
