Buckner Library Media Center

What's Happening in the LMC

We have had lots of excitement in the Library Media Center this year, and I wanted to share all of the great things that are happening here this year!

I am excited to introduce our new Library website! It has sections that cover Library Procedures, Battle of the Books, safe Student Search Engines, and the eBooks that are free and available to all Buckner Elementary students! You can access the website straight from the school website by clicking on the Library button at the top of the page.

Our second Book Fair is right around the corner. This year, we are having the Book Fair open for two weeks! It will start on Monday, February 8 and extend through the PTA Family Movie Night on Friday, February 19! We will close at 6:15 PM on that evening, so that the movie can begin right at 6:30 PM!

Students who participated in the OCPL Summer Reading Program last summer will receive a certificate for $5.00 off their Book Fair purchases! Those certificates will be coming home with students in the Wednesday Folders on February 3!

MakerSpace in the Library

This December, I received a Pyramid Award Grant from the Oldham County Educational Foundation (OCEF) to create a portable MakerSpace in the Library!

A MakerSpace is a place for students to gather to create, invent, and learn. I will have a variety of Maker Boxes filled with building materials to encourage students to design, tinker, experiment and build as they engage in science and engineering concepts.

My goal is to introduce students to help students develop their critical thinking skills and begin to think like scientists and engineers!
