Weekly Update
Week 3 Recap
This week, students learned the difference between personal space and general space. We discussed how it is not kind to invade anyone's personal space without their permission, and different ways we can communicate to others if we need more space. We also practiced moving safely in general space (shared space) through a few fun games that students could also play at recess. It was a wonderful week!
#FitWithFamily
Your student has an opportunity to be featured in our gym! Send in a picture of your student and friends or family practicing a healthy habit and the picture will be posted on a bulletin board in the gym. Examples include (but are not limited to) playing a sport, eating or preparing a healthy meal, drinking water, applying sunscreen, riding a bike/skateboard/roller skates, etc.! Let's show off our Healthy Huskies!
All pictures can be sent either physically with your student or emailed to haley.barnes@wbsd.org. ***For physical copies, please indicate if you want the picture returned!
Mindful Movement
Sometimes students may come to class and are not in the right head space for learning yet. Maybe they're tired, unfocused, stressed out, or something else that prevents them from learning. In our gym, students may use the Mindful Movement corner to take a second to stretch and refocus.
Calming Corner & Mindset Corner
We all have bad days sometimes, and we all experience frustration, anger, and sadness. This corner is available if students need a break to calm themselves down using breathing techniques or grounding techniques. It is also available if they need to change their mindset from a negative mindset to a growth mindset. The purpose of this space is to give students a chance to reset so they can be their best selves!
Husky PACK
Even in the gym, we are always a part of the Husky PACK! This bulletin board displays our PACK expectations and the PACK Pledge, which reminds us we should take pride in all we say and do, hold ourselves accountable for our actions, be the best we can be in our community, and show kindness to ourselves and others.
Supporting Our Students
I know many of our students participate in activities outside of school, and I would love to support them in any way possible! If your student plays a sport, dances, does gymnastics, plays an instrument, or participates in any other out-of-school activity, please feel free to send along their performance/game schedule to haley.barnes@wbsd.org and I will do my absolute best to attend at least one!
Cooperation and Good Sportsmanship - Up Next!
Next week in PE, students will be playing cooperative games that help them with teamwork and good sportsmanship. We built our social contract this past week, and cooperation and good sportsmanship are two of our main focus areas! K-1 students will be using their bodies to form their letters (think of the YMCA dance), as well as practicing safe stopping and moving, and 2-5 students will be practicing different relay races with a variety of classmates. Families can support these topics at home by having conversations about staying calm when we lose a game or a challenge, and by reminding students to respect all classmates and adults in the building. It's always a great day to be a Husky!
