ATTN: 6TH GRADERS - BAY VIEW ART CLASSES
It is that time of year when 6th graders start thinking about their courses for Bay View. Art 1 (Advanced Art) has been introduced to ALL 6th graders currently attending art class and have been given the opportunity to start the application process in class. If you would like to encourage him/her to apply for Art 1, please review the information below. All materials for the application process are due on January 19th. Due to time limits on processing schedules, there are no exceptions to this deadline. Please email either of the Lineville art teachers with questions.
Bay View requires students in seventh and eighth grade to enroll in Creativity and Critical Thinking (CCT) class for an eight-week period. Additionally, for students who desire an art career, Art I is offered. Students must apply and be accepted into the Art 1 program as 6th graders.
Art I—7th and 8th Grade - Art I is an exploratory foundational course. Skill development and exposure to a variety of mediums and techniques will be emphasized in two and three dimensional areas. This is the same foundational course taught at Bay Port that is one semester long. Students completing Art I at Bay View will meet the Art I prerequisite when selecting courses at Bay Port. This course is designed to accelerate a student’s entry into AP Art at Bay Port, and is therefore intended for students who desire a career in the arts.
Students enrolled in advanced courses at Bay View are expected to follow through on all assignments, perform at a high level, participate and maintain good standing in other classes.
Students wishing to participate in the Art I course at Bay View must meet the following criteria for the application process:
Complete the Art I Drawing assessments. There are two parts: a creativity assessment (completed in class) and skill assessment (taken home and completed with a time-lapse video).
Must upload the assessments to the Schoology course called Bay View Art 1 Application for review by Lineville and Bay View art teachers.
If a student does not get chosen for Art 1 at Bay View, he/she still has the opportunity to take this class during high school.

NEW Zoo & Adventure Park Volunteer Opportunities
The NEW Zoo & Adventure Park is currently in great need of volunteers to help with a variety of experiences, including things like giraffe and children’s zoo feedings, assisting with large zoo events (such as the upcoming “Zoo Boo!”), running the carousel, routine cleaning and maintenance, animal encounters, and much more. The zoo accepts volunteers as young as 8 years old with chaperone assistance, and those ages 15+ can be here on their own. Volunteering at the zoo is a great opportunity for families, individuals, and groups of all sizes, and opportunities are available for both one-time and continuing experiences.
Unlike most accredited zoos in the country, the NEW Zoo is fully self-funded and does not receive any tax support for operations. This means their budget is small and they rely on the community for support! The NEW Zoo is dedicated to conservation and education. Supporting the NEW Zoo helps us achieve our mission of connecting our community with wildlife and nature. To learn more:
