Mountain Lion Minute

Week of November 2nd

Mountain Lion Families,

We've now completed our first few days of hybrid learning at Montgomery. It has been so refreshing to see our students in the building! Thank you for your continued patience as we navigate face-to-face instruction and virtual instruction at the same time. I have to give a tremendous amount of credit to our staff. This has been a monumental task, but they are doing it with grace and dedication.

Without question, there may be times where we experience some hiccups. There will be times when the classroom teacher is late to a Google Meet because of an unexpected student and/or building issue. There will be times where a teacher may need to unexpectedly meet or turn off the camera in order to best assist a student in the classroom. There will be times when classes will be working on general routines that can only be done face-to-face, but may not make sense to be doing from home (practicing how to walk in the hallway, how to wash hands, how to socially distance, etc.). Without question, the safety of students is our primary concern, and we need to create that safe environment and explicitly teach these basic expectations while students are here in the building. This will require some patience from our learners and parents/guardians while at home, and I thank you in advance for your support.

I will be providing further communication/ updates regarding parent drop-off/ pick-up in the coming days as we prepare for the arrival of our students in grades 3-6. Please be on the look out for that important communication.

As a reminder, there is no school for students on November 2nd and 3rd. Friday, November 6th is a hybrid 2 day for students in grades K-2 and there is early dismissal this day at 1:40. Students in grades 3-6 start their hybrid schedule the week of November 9th.

Holiday Family Support

Each year Montgomery Elementary and community resources partner to help our families in need with gift cards and food during the holiday season. While there may be many families who are in need, Montgomery families are eligible to receive holiday support if they meet the following criteria.

Please fill out the Holiday Family Support form if your family is in need of assistance this holiday season.

Mrs. Clara Permar

"Clara has been teaching in the district for 16 years. She has taught 4th, 2nd and has now been in first grade for several years. Clara always has a friendly word for everyone. She is extremely organized and helps keep us on track with pacing and planning. Clara is married with 2 kids, Molly is 11 and Jackson is 9. When she is not in school she is busy cheering on her kids at sports, helping them with school projects. She loves the beach, but also loves the cold, snowy weather of winter. Clara is a fantastic 1st grade team member. "

Ms. Renae Leonard

"Renae Leonard has been a part of the Montgomery family for over 10 years. She has always been a great teammate, friend, and someone you can rely on for help. Renae is always there for her students and cares about them very much. She is innovative and willing to try new and creative activities for her students. Renae can be a calming voice when things get a little stressful at work and is always there to listen to you. I am so happy I have gotten to work with her for many years. Renae loves the beach and has stayed at Avalon over many summers. She also enjoys going to Florida visiting her parents' house and taking in the Florida sunshine. She loves animals especially her chocolate lab Jax who is always keeping Renae on her toes. Montgomery is lucky to have such a fun, dedicated, and caring teacher and person in Renae!"

Mrs. Jen Folweiler

"Jen works with keeping her student on-task and following the routines of the classroom. She works on creating modifications on the grade level work in the moment and helps to implement previous modified work on the students current functioning level. She researches different programs that would be beneficial for the student she works with. Last year, she helped to implement a behavior modification system to encourage her student to complete her work and participate in the class. Jen is invaluable member of the Montgomery staff! We are so lucky to have her with us."

Mr. Joe Brennan

"Joe shows kindness in the following examples. Joe always is welcoming and greets our team when we are in the building. Joe is there for us if we need anything or if we have a question. Joe is continuously sanitizing everything so we can all be safe! " Thanks, Joe!
