Saranac High School Counseling News
October 2020
October is "Finding Wonder Month"
"Every day may not be glorious, but you can find something glorious in every day."
-Precept from 365 Days of Wonder
We understand how challenging these times are for students and families. Anything we can do now to improve our emotional health is so important. October is a beautiful month to get outside and enjoy the surroundings we live in. Studies show that spending time in nature greatly improves our mental health. We encourage you to get outside and look at the world with open eyes and wonder...what do you see, what can you hear, what can you smell?
Tips for Taking Care of our Mental Health
- Take breaks from screens
- Move your body for 30 minutes
- Drink more water
- Talk to people: Have conversations with your family and friends (while abiding by safety guidelines) instead of just texting and using social media
- Get enough sleep
- Take a break after the school day before getting into homework
- Get outside
Remote Learning
We hope that things have calmed down for students and they are settling into a routine for remote learning. Please remember that teachers are grading in a typical fashion and it is important that students do their best to keep up with their work. Showing up for the regularly scheduled Zoom sessions for each core course (English, Social Studies, Math, Science, and Foreign Language) is very important. In addition, students should make it a priority to show up for any elective Zoom sessions (PE, Health, Business, Art, Band, Chorus, and Technology) and check Schoology daily for work that is assigned in these courses even if students have not had a Zoom session that day. If a student is struggling please make sure that they reach out to the teacher first and if issues cannot be resolved then Mrs. Rosenbaum and Mrs. Sproule are available to help!
The Importance of High School-Freshmen Presentation
The OneDrive for Business link below is the freshmen recording. This is typically done in a classroom setting but this year we are offering the same information virtually. Although this presentation addresses freshmen it is great information for parents/guardians.
Senior Meetings
Seniors have been notified via Schoology to set up their senior meeting with their school counselor. If your senior has not done this yet please have them click on the link below to set up a meeting with Mrs. Rosenbaum or Mrs. Sproule. If your senior is applying for college it is imperative to set this meeting up as soon as possible. Seniors that are planning on entering the work force or the military after they graduate also need to set up a meeting but they have more wiggle room.
