High School Athletic/Activity Facility Updates
January 25, 2023
Superintendent Dr. Seymour hosted a community meeting to gather input on athletic/activity facilities at the high school and SVPA, the contracted architect working for the district, presented the flexible options. About 30 community members were present to ask questions and 6 questions were gathered through a form sent to all CCA families.
February 1, 2023
With our growing district, it's important to plan for the growth and future of the programs. CCA has quickly grown into a 4A district with the number of student participants increasing every year. The school board of directors have spent the past 8 months discussing what is best for the future of the high school facilities with our growth. With all information discussed, gathered, and presented from the architects, the school board voted on Option 1 to advance the planning phase for all facilities to be in Tiffin allowing the architects to advance with design planning for the facilities.
The Oxford softball field honors decades of Clear Creek Amana history, traditions and championship teams. This was not taken lightly and was discussed at length. Even though the softball field will be moving to the high school in Tiffin, the district will intentionally plan events, celebrations and/or some competitions on the Oxford field and the field will continue to be maintained by the CCA Buildings and Grounds crew.
Board of Directors District Boundary Changes
The 2020 census numbers reveal how the district's growth will impact the board of directors boundaries within our district. The director districts are determined by population within that district. With the growth on the east side of the district the Amana and Oxford director districts will cover a larger area and the districts on the east side will be more condensed. The board discussed options and next steps are to develop a resolution. There will be a public hearing held in March. The board will still consist of 4 district seats and 3 at-large seats. All residents living in the CCA Community School District can vote for any of the districts and all board members represent the entire district, however it is important to have representation of any given area.
Athletic Department Audit
Superintendent Seymour had requested a performance review of the Clear Creek Amana Community School athletic program. Gina Farmer was in the district Monday, January 9-13. During that time, she interviewed 31 staff and administration, spoke with many random students, teachers, and community members as well as attended a girls basketball game and a wrestling competition.
A successful program requires systems and procedures to be in place. District teams will review the findings and implement plans.
Green Iowa AmeriCorps at CCA
Hey CCA community!
Did you know that there is a full-time AmeriCorps member working in your school district? Green Iowa AmeriCorps member, Emily Blenck, has been engaging with Clear Creek Amana since September 2022 to offer sustainable plans and environmental education opportunities for both Clipper staff and students. Representatives from Green Iowa AmeriCorps–a service organization focused on encouraging environmental stewardship across Iowa–have been active in the CCA district for the past four years!
Throughout the month of January, Emily and the 3rd and 4th graders at Oak Hill Elementary have been practicing composting! Composting is a great way to create fertile soil with extra food scraps and reduce the amount of landfill waste produced by our schools. The students are learning what/what not to compost from their own school lunches, while helping the environment and “feeding the worms.”
If you have any questions or ideas for Green Iowa AmeriCorps at CCA feel free to email Emily at emilyblenck@ccaschools.org!

February is Black History Month
Black History Month is an annual celebration of the rich cultural heritage, triumphs, and adversities that are an indelible part of our country's history. Observed in February, the month-long observance originated in 1926 by historian Carter G. Woodson. The 2023 Black History Month observance theme is "Black Resistance." The theme encourages African Americans to continue mobilizing resources and shape social movements to create a space for Black Americans to thrive.
Mental Health Matters: Brought to you by the CCA School Therapists
Welcome to February!
Today we want to talk about depression. Below are some great videos to explain the diagnosis and treatment of this common mental health condition.
What Is Depression?
Depression is a mental health condition that can cause children and teenagers to feel very sad and hopeless. Kids with depression have trouble enjoying things they used to love. They may also seem listless and easily annoyed.
Treatment for Depression
Getting treatment for children with depression may seem daunting, but it really can help. Treatment for depression almost always involves therapy, and it can include medication as well.
