BCISD Bilingual & ESL Family Night - RJ Families are welcome!
Upcoming Science Fair @ RJ Elementary
2022 RJ Richey Science Fair Information:
Who: All 4th & 5th grade students are invited to participate. This is a fun, voluntary activity. Students may do the project on their own or decide to work with a partner or group (groups need to be all 4th or all 5th graders - No 4th and 5th mixed teams as the judging will be done by grade level). Every science fair participant has to complete and turn in a signed project registration form. If working with a partner or in a group - only 1 project registration form needs to be completed but each group member will need to have a parent sign their group registration form giving them permission to participate. Groups cannot have more than 3 students working together.
3rd grade students will be working to research, design, and learn with specific classroom projects
What: Pick a science experiment and create a display to show us what you did and what you learned! Be creative in picking an experiment or project! No erupting volcanoes or solar system models, please!! This needs to be a true science experiment where you work through the steps of the scientific method! 4th graders will only be required to turn in their display board for judging. 5th graders will be required to turn in a display board and give a 3-5 minute oral presentation to the judges about their project. A trifold display board is required for each experiment turned in for judging. One trifold board will be provided by the school free of charge for each project (not for each student - groups get 1 display board only). All other materials for the project are to be provided by the student and the project and board are to be completed at home - class time will not be provided for students to work on science fair projects. This is a student science fair not a parent science fair - you need to do your project on your own. Parents - please guide your child but do not allow your involvement to extend any further than to promote student learning. Guide your child when you can, but let the final project be a reflection of your child’s individual effort & design!
When: Final projects will be due Thursday, March 10th. Projects may not be brought to school prior to this date - we will not be able to store projects at school. Arrangements need to be made for bus riders to get their projects to school on March 10. Please clear extra materials with the bus driver and if not allowed on the bus - it is the student’s responsibility to make other arrangements to get all project supplies to school for judging. Projects need to be in the back gym Thursday, March 10, starting at 7:30 AM to be assigned a number and display table. All projects must be set up and ready for judging by 8:30 AM (parents may assist with set-up but students (not school staff) are responsible for setting up their project for judging. Families are invited to a Science Fair Night that evening - more info to come on that special event! You can take your project home after the Science Fair Night or on Friday, March 11.
******************************************************************************************
I want to participate: If you decide you want to participate in this year's science fair…come see Mrs. Keele in Room 407 between 7:30-8:00 AM before school any morning to pick up a project registration form! Fill it out and have your parents sign it giving permission for you to participate.
Project registration forms must be turned in directly to Mrs. Keele in room 407 by the end of the school day Friday, January 28th. When you turn in your completed, signed registration form to Mrs. Keele, you will receive your science fair packet with more details, helpful hints and forms to help you organize your project and results.
