The three topics
Eli Whitney invented the cotton gin on 1794.He lived on a plantation owned by Catherine Greene in Georgia. An engine pulled the cotton across hooks from the seeds quickly.
President James Monroe spoke to Congress in 1823. The Monroe doctrine said that Great Britain could not colonize the Western Hemisphere. In 1865 the Monroe doctrine helped Mexican president Benito Juarez against the French Emperor Maximillian.
Missouri wanted to join the union as a slave state in 1819. Senators Rufus King and William Pickney disagreed about letting Missouri join as a slave state. The Missouri compromise permitted Missouri to join the union as a slave state and Maine to join as a free state.
