Changing Role of Women
Was good for middle class ladies.
Middle Class
Most middle class women stayed home to take care of the children, while men went to work. and women would also spend time directing servants and doing religious or charitable service. While lower class women worked in factories for 12 hours a day and then come home and clean, feed the family, and clothe them.
lower class
*worked 12 hours a day.*factory owners liked to hire women more because they thought they thougt the women adapted to machines faster then men*easier to manage better than men*they didnt have to pay women very much money *when the women got done working they had to take care of the children and clean*they got treated badly
Husbands
The only way middle class women could stay home is if the husband had a good job like working in a office or some high paying job.
women in stores
department stores were still popular in 1948, as women jammed the counters at Boggs & Buhl on the North Siden.
Spencer Family
One of the few lucky familys. They were memorialized in a book called "The Spencers of Amberson Avenue"
