Special Text Effects

Where and Why

Special effects are added to texts on book covers, posters, webpages and even 3-dimensional objects. Adding special effects to letters, words and phrases can enhance the products, make them attractive and help convey the message better. Texts with special effects can also evoke emotion and make a product more suitable for a purpose.

Examples

Burst Effect

Big image
This effect was added by first, going to the "fx" option, and editing the text color, glowing, opacity, gradient overlay, bevel and emboss (depth size, highlight ,shadow) etc. Then, the layers were duplicated and dissolved. Finally after many more steps, the "Radial Blur" was used to determine the amount and quality of the burst.

Neon Effect (from mini project)

Big image
This effect was added by first typing my text, with a blue shade. The text layer was duplicated, and converted into a "smart object". Then the Guassian Blur option was used, to make the letters glow. Next, the top text layer was edited with the different blending options. Some edits were made using, inner glow, draw shadow, bevel and emboss, and inner shadow. Then after some other steps, I added my background picture, and reduced its opacity, to finish the effect.

Fire Effect

Big image
This effect was added by first, going to the "fx" option, and editing the text color, glowing, opacity, gradient overlay, bevel and emboss (depth size, highlight ,shadow) etc. The, the zigzag option under Filter was used to change the outline of the letters. Then after many more steps, the fire image was placed over the text and a section of the fire was selected, duplicated, and positioned on and around the text.

Ice Effect

Big image
To create this image, white text was first typed on a black background. Then I used the "Crystallize" option make my text outline. Then, I rotated my image temporarily and added the "Wind" effect to the letters, and amplified it. Then the image was flipped and crystallized again. After a new layer, was created, blending options(inner glow, bevel and emboss etc.) were used to edit the background and the text. After a few more steps, the "Plastic Wrap" option in the filter gallery was used to top off the effect.

Image In Text Effect

Big image
To produce this effect, first, the text was typed in black and my image was placed over my text, and sized appropriately. Using the brush tool, the edges of my image was smoothed out. Then, the opacity level of my image was decreased slightly, and then I used the "Create Clipping Mask" to finish the image.

Text Transparency Effect

Big image
This effect was produced by first typing the text, onto the image, which I had used the "Fill" option on, to make a "white coating" on the picture. Finally, the "Fill Opacity" levels, and the image "layer opacity" levels were varied to produce the final image.
