Visitors for IF
The word is out. The level of collaboration that happens at Gwin Oaks is what other schools want! Brookwood ES wants to visit our IF meetings on September 10th. Their media specialist will be here video taping each grade level. I know that seems strange, but please don't let it concern you in any way. We will continue to do what we do anyway! We will follow the agenda items then look at our frameworks just like always. We will try our best to ignore the camera. :) I can't help it you guys are so awesome.
Celebrating our America heritage:
Constitution Day- Booklet "Words That Built America" provided for all 4th graders- Sept 17
Wear Red, White, and Blue on Sept 17th with jeans! (What's more American than blue jeans?!) Tell students to wear red, white, and blue too!
If your class is doing anything to celebrate this day, please email Jennifer Mimms so she can get a picture! This is a great time to discuss civic responsibility.
Please put a blurb about this day in your newsletters.
Action Item for eCLASS pages: Please put the following link on your eCLASS page and then encourage students to share the video with parents. We decided it would more likely get watched if it's on your eCLASS page then just the general web page. Thanks!

Notice the portion that states:
In order to withhold your consent for the disclosure of you and/or your child's photographs, audio recordings, and/or video recordings, the parent of the student must notify the principal of the school the student attends in writing within 10 days of receipt of this handbook. The written notice must: ( l) include the name of the student; (2) include a statement that the parent/guardian is opting out of the release of photographs, audio recordings, and/or video recordings depicting the student; and (3) be signed and dated by the parent or guardian.
Currently we have only received one written notice. All notices are located in the Everything GOES C&I page next to the calendar on Symbaloo.
MEDIA CENTER NEWS
GWIN OAKS FAMILY LEGACY CENTER
The Legacy Center is opening on Tuesday, September 8. Here are some things you need to know:
· The Center is open daily from 10:45 AM-12:45 PM.
· Students and parents may visit the Legacy Center.
· Students may check out items from the Legacy Center only if the family has completed the form given out during Registration. A link to that form is on the Gwin Oaks website under the Parent tab/Gwin Oaks Family Legacy Resource Center.
· You might send a child to the Legacy Center to check out a game or resource to practice a skill. A parent might also request that the child visit us to check out a particular item.
· Refer to the laminated yellow piece of paper in your magnetic pocket to see the items we have available for checkout.
· Please only send one child at a time.
· Send each child with a bright orange pass. NO PASS, BACK TO CLASS. The passes are in your magnetic pocket.
· The bright orange pass must have the child’s first and last name written on it. The last name is what the volunteer uses to check out items to the student. Also, make a quick note of what kind of item the child should check out.
· The student may keep the checked-out item for two weeks.
· The student must turn in an item before s/he is allowed to check out another item.
· Please send students to return items to the Legacy Center only during the hours it is open.
· Volunteers are working in the Legacy Center. Please be kind.
· If there is an issue, please direct that issue to me so that I can help.
· If you do not have a magnetic pocket with a bright yellow materials list and bright orange passes, please email me and I will bring one to you. I gave these out during Preplanning.
Thank you,
Claire Collins
