PreAP English I
Lisa Pogue, Royse City High School
Agenda, Week of April 4, 2016
Outside Reading Assignment: Students have chosen books for outside reading for our Literary Circles. Students have a role in their group each week as well as three journal entries. Students will be graded on participation and coming prepared for the weekly discussion. Your child should have all of this information in their interactive notebook. The work students have been asked to complete is aligned with the College Board for AP Preparation. The next reading assignment is due Monday, April 11, 2016.
This Week's Agenda: Career Research & Job Fair
Monday - Grammar Points - were, where, we're; Class Time for Literacy Discussion Reading
Tuesday - Literacy Circles; Career Research - flyers and written speeches due in class tomorrow
Wednesday - Job Fair Presentations of Career Research and Blog Entries
Thursday - Job Fair Presentations of Career Research and Blog Entries
Friday - Research paper Revision
First, I want to say "Woo Hoo! The EOC is behind us!" Our students at RCHS worked until the very last minute, so I have full confidence their results will reflect their effort. We probably won't get grade reports until the end of the school year as it takes a while to get all of the writing scored.
For the remainder of the year, we will be focusing on research skills, literary analysis, and grammar points, as well as continuing to improve their written expression. Much to the students' disappointment, English isn't over for the year. I do have their best interests in mind, and like I explained to them, "I'm here to teach them for life, not for a test."
This week is the 5th week of the 5th Six Weeks. Students who have missing assignments need to take care of these soon or they will be zeroes in the grade book. Some of your students may need reminding that they will retake English I next year if they do not pass this year; it is impossible to just move on at the high school level.
As always, please let me know if you have any questions or concerns about your child.
