Happy New Year and Welcome Back!!

Big image

Welcome back, Earnest and I hope that everyone had a wonderful Christmas break. From the sounds of your children, they had a GREAT Christmas!

This week is the first week of a new 9-week grading period as well as a new semester. Here is a look ahead of what to expect this second half of the year.

ELA-We only have 10 more letters left in our alphabet study. Our focus for the 2nd semester will be using all of the phonics we have learned in our daily writing and reading. We will also continue to work on comprehension of text by identifying the setting, characters, and action.

SIGHT WORDS - We are half-way through our sight word study. Keep up the hard work. Our standard states that students must be fluent in 100 sight words.

MATH - We will start the semester out with a new unit on measurement and then finish it up with addition and subtraction. We will continue to focus on number sense, which is an understanding that numbers are made up of parts (amounts) and can be composed and decomposed.

Science and Social Studies - We will cover a variety of topics to include the seasons, Black History, Dental Health, Day and Night Sky, National Symbols, Rock and Soil, and Gravity and Motion.

Kindergarten Bake Sale

We will continue to have our in-class Bake Sale, thank you to all who have supported it. So far we have raised enough money to buy the Osmo program for our iPads. Our new goal is to raise enough money to pay for our weekly newsletter that you receive through email.

Please remember that all the money we raise directly benefits your child's classroom and ultimately, your child's education. All snack items are .50 each.

Our Next APTT Meeting is Thursday, January 21st.

Please mark your calendar for our next APTT meeting on Thursday, January 21st, at 5:30. We will go over our first APTT goal of counting to 100. I will introduce a new skill and ways you can help your child attain this goal at home.
