Important Upcoming Meetings with Counselor

Mrs. Brown, school counselor, will be offering informational sessions Thursday, May 18, to communicate important information to current eighth graders and eleventh graders. At 6 p.m. on the 18th parents of 2017-18 freshmen (current eighth graders) can learn more about schedules, four-year curriculum plans, dual credit classes, and more.

At 7:30 p.m. rising seniors (current juniors) and their parents will benefit from an informational session about college applications, college visits, scholarships, financial aid, and more. This meeting is for parents and students.

Pope and Alexander Head to State

The Mars Hill Golf Team played in the Class 1A-2A North Sub-State Golf Tournament on May 8 at the Gadsden Country Club. The boys' team finished fourth. Junior Hannah Pope and senior Ike Alexander now advance to the state tournament rounds on Monday and Tuesday. Good luck, Hannah & Ike! We're proud of you!

Quarter Tests and Semester Exams

Middle school quarter tests are scheduled for May 18, 22, and 23:

  • Thursday, May 18: English
  • Monday, May 22: History & Math
  • Tuesday, May 23: Bible & Science (Dismiss at 11:45)

High school semester exams are scheduled for May 22-24:

  • Monday, May 22: D & E Blocks
  • Tuesday, May 23: B & C Blocks (Dismiss at 11:45)
  • Wednesday, May 24: A Block & Make-up exams (Dismiss at 9:30; 11 for makeup)

Nelson Wins Numerous Shooting Medals

Mars Hill's own Walsh Nelson recently competed in a 4-H shoot in Sylacauga, AL among 33 teams of juniors and seniors competing in shooting trap, skeet, and sporting clays. Walsh finished High Over All with his combined scores for the entire group. He also won 1st Place High Over All Individual in Trap, 1st Place Junior Individual Trap, 1st Place Junior Individual Sporting Clays, and 1st Place Junior Team Trap. Nice work, Walsh! We're proud of you!

Other Notes of Interest:

  • The Wellness Walk-in Clinic on Cloyd Blvd. will provide athletic physicals for those who plan to participate in athletics next year. The cost of the physicals will be $15, half of which will be donated back to Mars Hill athletics. Athletic physicals are good for one calendar year. Please make sure to take a copy of the AHSAA physical form with you to be filled out and signed by a doctor. These forms are not valid if they are not signed by a doctor. If you need more information, call Mike Mitchell in the high school office or Erica Hamby at Wellness Walk-in Clinic (256-275-3724).
  • Driver's Education registration forms are available in the 5-12 office. Session 1 will be May 30-June 2, and Session 2 will be June 5-8 from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. with a lunch break.
