1. How to gather relevant information from print (hard copy) or digital sources
2. How to use search terms (keywords) effectively in finding information
How to decide whether a website or resource is credible and accurate
-Author could be some schizophrenic who thinks he has useful information on the government. He's not Edward Snow, he's Phillip K. Dick.
- The date could be December 4, 1999. Which means it's an outdated source. So you should always check the date before putting information inside a paper.
- Check the URL, because if the end is .org, .gov or .edu, it's most likely a reliable source.
The difference between quoting, paraphrasing, and summarizing
- Quoting: Copy words from an author.
- Paraphrasing: Restate the ideas from an author using different words.
- Summarizing: Break down the words of another author, telling the main idea instead of the whole story.
So, quoting is using the exact words, paraphrasing is using different words, and summarizing is taking out the important parts and leaving the boring stuff.
- Quoting: Rebecca Black once said, "Partyin' partyin' yeah!"
- Paraphrasing: Celebrate, celebrate, aye!!!
- Summarize: Partyin'! Yeah!
