Stop the Challenge!
The Perks of Being a Wallflower is being challenged locally.
What's the Reasoning for the Challenge?
In our school systems the book, The Perks of Being a Wallflower, is trying to be taken out of the hands of our children. As a concerned parent my question is: why? This novel depicts a true highschool experience through the eyes of freshman Charlie. Although he encounters certain themes, that is not the central message of the book. He experiences what it's like to be alone. Eventually, Charlie learns what "Carpe Diem", seize the day, truly means. Also, he learns to participate in life and not let time slip away. This title displays courage, as well as a powerful message to our youth to not give up because eventually things will work themselves out. Why would we want our children to forget this important message?
