Southwestern Library News
Fall 2013
Check out the changes
Books and movies will now check out to faculty and staff for one quarter instead of one year. Items must be returned to the library in order to be renewed. Two renewals are allowed, except for new books, which can be renewed one time. This will help us keep better track of inventory and that's a cost savings.
Read on for other changes that make the library a more welcoming place to study, learn, persist, and succeed!
Job-hunting and career books
Check out books on how to write a resume or how to prepare for a career. Our display includes flyers on campus resources to assist students.
Health and wellness
Pick up free flyers on basic health issues -- from sleep disorders to tattoo safety.
Check out our collection of books on healthy living.
Also ask about our flyers on community resources to help students who are struggling with basic issues such as housing or food.
Free fiction
We've added a book co-op to the lobby of the library.
Take a book. Drop off a book. Share!
This is a sustainable and budget-friendly way to pursue downtime interests!
Rare books
Browse through beautiful old tomes, most of which were published before 1900. Dickens. Darwin. Lincoln. Jefferson. Those are just a few of the authors and subjects in this collection that is available for checkout.
Relax...with a book and a view
We not only added two more study desks, we were able to get a chair and a loveseat for bargain-basement prices.
One chair faces Empire Lakes. Oh, and it is a high-backed recliner!
Quiet places to study
Our students should love the loveseat. It's a recliner, also.
The trend in libraries is to make them more welcoming places. Once students come in, they also tend to ask questions...about the campus...about their assignments.
Popular fiction
A very small collection of popular fiction is now in the library.
The collection is designed to support reluctant readers, engage ESL students, and make the library a place where students want to visit.
