Winter Park Band Notes
February 5, 2017
From Mr. Blackmer
Dear Band Families,
Thank you to everyone on a very successful Door-2-Door fundraiser! Our initial Saturday take was just a little over $22,000, and there will still be a few thousand dollars yet to come in by way of online credit card donations over the coming weeks!
I'd like to especially thank Kathy McCrea for coordinating Door-2-Door, Carly Shuman for rounding up all of our drivers, Lee McBurney for setting up our food for the day, Michelle Clemons for making the Band look their best, and Nancy Stephens for accounting for several thousand dollars worth of donations! Thank you, also, to our parent drivers, provisions helpers, and money counters (many of which were there until 7 PM)! A huge thanks also goes out to our terrific students who, despite wanting to just about anything else on a Saturday, had great attitudes throughout the day!
Door-2-Door is the most important non-musical event of the school year. It literally reduces our student Band fees by $150 every year and keeps those fees as some of the lowest in Orange County. I really appreciate the vast majority of our Band families who planned ahead, looked at the Band calendar, and made a commitment to be here. The amount of money that we are able to fund-raise is directly dependent on the amount of map coverage we are able to have, and every individual has an impact that effort.
This coming week begins our "MPA season" with Jazz Band and S&E MPA. Be sure to see the itineraries for both on the Band website (or below under "This Week"). The itineraries for Concert Band MPA are also available on the website.
We were very fortunate to have Dr. Timothy Mahr and the St. Olaf College Band in concert here last Monday night! It was a terrific performance, and it also allowed us to have Dr. Mahr, along with members of the St. Olaf Band, here with the Wind Ensemble the next morning (picture below)! Be sure to catch their concert again as it streams live on Saturday, February 11 at 3:30 PM.
Finally, just another reminder about our Guest Conductor Workshop, Thursday, February 16 - Saturday, February 18. Please note the adjustment made to the Saturday rehearsal/performance schedule. All information can be found on the Band website and below in the Newsletter.
All the Best!
Mr. Blackmer

An important part of MPA is listening to other groups' performances. Just as we would like a good audience for each of our performances, we want to show that courtesy and support to our fellow local Band programs. Because of this, each Band's MPA itinerary includes some listening before and after their individual performance.
If it is absolutely necessary to take a student from MPA early (following their performance), an e-mail needs to be sent to both Mr. Blackmer and Mr. Clemente at least one day prior.
